Solutions Architect Database Automation & Cloud Integration

We are looking for a skilled Solutions Architect to drive the architecture and automation of cloud-based database solutions. This role involves integrating relational and non-relational databases into modern application development patterns, automating database management tasks, and designing scalable, secure cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have expertise in AWS services, CI/CD integration, and a passion for enabling teams through knowledge sharing and best practices.

1. Database Architecture & Integration:

  • Design and implement scalable, reliable, and secure database architectures for applications, integrating both relational (e.g., PostgreSQL on Amazon RDS) and non-relational (e.g., DynamoDB) databases.

  • Develop and maintain automated database provisioning processes as part of the application deployment lifecycle (often referred to as an application vending machine ).

  • Leverage AWS database solutions (Amazon RDS, RedShift, DynamoDB, Aurora) to meet application scalability and performance needs.

2. CI/CD Pipeline Integration & Automation:

  • Integrate database management and deployment tools (such as DBMaestro) into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to automate database changes and deployments.

  • Standardize database configuration processes across multiple projects, enabling reusable and consistent patterns via service catalog tools like ServiceNow or Backstage.

3. Cloud Infrastructure & Automation Tools:

  • Automate the configuration and management of database tools within service catalog frameworks to support on-demand provisioning and configuration management.

  • Ensure best practices for security, performance, and backup management are automated and standardized for all databases.

4. Knowledge Transfer & Team Onboarding:

  • Lead the onboarding of teams to new processes, tools, and best practices related to database automation and management.

  • Transfer knowledge of database operations and tooling to the Pilot platform engineering team, ensuring smooth adoption of new solutions.

  • Contribute to the broader business strategy by ensuring the database architecture aligns with organizational goals and technical requirements.

  • Work closely with engineering and product teams to ensure that database systems scale effectively and integrate seamlessly into overall application architectures.

  • Mentor junior engineers and architects, providing guidance on architecture design, database management, and automation best practices.

  • Foster a collaborative environment where team members can learn and grow in their understanding of cloud-based database solutions and automation.>

  • Identify and resolve complex issues related to database performance, scalability, and availability.

  • Analyze system requirements and use innovative solutions to address technical challenges in database management and cloud infrastructure.

  • Expertise in AWS cloud services, particularly databases such as Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL), RedShift, DynamoDB, and Aurora.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline integration, including tools like GitHub Actions, and database deployment automation (preferably using DBMaestro or similar tools).

  • Strong background in database management, including operations, scaling, and optimization in a cloud environment.

  • Familiarity with service catalog tools such as ServiceNow or Backstage for managing service configurations and automating provisioning.

  • Proven experience mentoring teams and sharing knowledge in a technical environment.

  • Experience working with NoSQL databases and data warehousing solutions.

  • Familiarity with cloud automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and resolve complex issues.

  • A proactive, strategic thinker who can balance technical execution with long-term planning.
