I. Job Summary

The Director of Digital Planning & Governance is a senior leadership role that oversees the strategic alignment, budget planning, portfolio management, organization communications, enterprise architecture and data governance for WM Digital. The role ensures that IT initiatives and investments are aligned with the business goals and priorities, and that IT resources are optimized and utilized effectively. The role also fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the IT department and across the organization. In addition to guiding internal operations for Digital, the position will also own and direct an enterprise-wide data governance program that ensures quality data to support critical business processes. This position reports to the Senior Director of Planning & Data Services.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Lead the development and execution of the IT strategic plan, Digital roadmap and budget, in collaboration with the IT leadership team and business stakeholders.

  • Grow and manage the Planning & Governance team (5-7 resources). Direct reports include the Enterprise Architect, Sr. Manager of Planning, and Sr. Manager of Data Governance.

  • Manage the Digital performance management stewardship process including defining KPI, preparing leadership updates and recommending areas of opportunity for improvement.

  • Own and manage the IT portfolio management framework, processes and tools, to ensure that IT projects and programs are prioritized, scoped, resourced, monitored and delivered according to the agreed objectives, benefits, timelines and budgets. The process includes facilitating a cross-functional executive decision-making body of business leaders monthly.

  • Design and manage the IT organization communications including monthly organizational meetings, quarterly townhalls, specialized digital communications as well as interfacing with corporate communications team on enterprise level communications.

  • Oversee the enterprise architecture function, to ensure that the IT architecture is aligned with the business strategy, standards and best practices, and that it supports the current and future needs of the organization.

  • Lead the data governance function establishing an enterprise data framework, data governance council, tools and processes to enable high quality data to support near term and long term business objectives.

  • Manage and oversee the data governance council, data stewards, and data owners, and facilitate collaboration and alignment across business units, functions, and data domains.

  • Provide guidance and support to data users and consumers on data governance best practices, policies, and standards.

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is management through one or more managerial levels. This includes:

Direct supervision of full-time employees including senior management and individual contributor positions;

Indirect supervision of full-time employees including management and individual contributor positions.

IV. Qualifications

B. Education and Experience

Education: Bachelors Degree (accredited) in Computer Science, MIS, Finance or similar area of study or, in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant work experience

Experience: Eight (8) years of prior work experience (in addition to education requirement) within Information Technology including at least two years managing a team of two of more individuals

Preferred Experience: (10) Years of experience in IT management, planning and governance, with proven track record of leading complex and large-scale IT initiatives and delivering business value.

None required.

D. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

Experience in the most current technologies and products used in the industry. May require in depth skills in one or more of the following: technical software development and deployment, employee management, program and project management, budget development and monitoring, organizational change and development.


  • Strong knowledge and experience in IT budget planning, portfolio management, organization communications, enterprise architecture and data governance.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to influence, negotiate and build trust with senior management, business stakeholders and IT staff.

  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities, and to drive innovation and transformation in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
