Erlang AI/ML Developer
Location: Hybrid - Menlo Park, CA
About the Opportunity
Our client is a rapidly scaling pioneer in intelligent robotics and real-time automation. Their cloud-native orchestration platform fuses distributed Erlang back-end services with modern AI/ML pipelines to keep global fulfillment networks running at peak efficiency. As an Erlang AI/ML Developer, you will own high-impact, fault-tolerant services that drive split-second decisions across fleets of autonomous devices - bringing cutting-edge research out of the lab and into mission-critical production environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, code, and deploy Erlang/OTP micro-services that host AI inference, rules engines, and data streaming for real-time robotics orchestration.
- Partner with data scientists to convert Python-based models (TensorFlow, PyTorch, ONNX) into low-latency production services accessible through REST / gRPC endpoints.
- Optimise concurrency, supervision trees, and message-passing patterns to meet stringent <100 ms latency and 99.99 % uptime targets.
- Refactor legacy algorithms for scalability, memory footprint, and observability instrumenting with Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, and Grafana metrics.
- Guide code reviews, champion functional-programming best practices, and mentor engineers on Erlang concurrency patterns.
- Build automated load-test simulations that validate system behaviour at >10 000 events per second before every release.
Skill Set & Qualifications
- 4 + years professional software engineering experience; 2 + years hands-on Erlang/OTP in production environments.
- Proven record building or maintaining AI/ML or real-time decision systems (stream processing, feature stores, online inference).
- Deep understanding of distributed, high-availability architectures, supervision hierarchies, and hot-code upgrades.
- Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL datastores and event buses (Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS).
- Working knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes or Nomad) in CI/CD pipelines.
- Bachelor s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Bonus points for experience in robotics, edge computing, or telecom-grade real-time systems.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
What Makes This Role Exciting
- Direct ownership of green-field Erlang services powering AI-driven robotics at global scale.
- Hybrid schedule - three days each week collaborating onsite with a world-class engineering group in Menlo Park, CA, two days remote for deep-work focus.
- Competitive base, performance bonus, equity, and fully-funded benefits.
- Culture built on technical excellence, knowledge-sharing, and rapid experimentation.
