Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior COBOL Developer to join our team. As a Senior COBOL Developer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of various systems and applications in an IBM mainframe environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and technical support groups to deliver high-quality solutions. Strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and extensive technical experience with COBOL/CICS are essential for success in this role.

Duties:

  • Assist in the technical design for new development projects and system enhancements.
  • Coordinate technical solutions among various technical support groups.
  • Present technical solutions to management and technical support areas.
  • Implement technical solutions in accordance with project requirements.
  • Participate in requirements gathering sessions and analyze system design.
  • Develop technical design documents and program specifications.
  • Code, perform unit and integration testing of programming assignments.
  • Provide technical support during user testing efforts.
  • Optimize the performance of new and existing applications.
  • Address production support tasks, including issue analysis and proposing/implementing solutions.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced staff members

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience managing or participating in application analysis and design, migration, and deployment activities.
  • 5+ years of technical experience with COBOL/CICS in an IBM mainframe environment
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skill
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, development, and conceptual skills
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct multiple teams, projects, and activities.
  • Knowledge of project management techniques
  • Ability to establish goals, prioritize tasks, and utilize resources effectively.
  • Familiarity with DB2 databases and VSAM files
  • Proficiency in FTP and SFTP protocols for data exchange
  • Experience with performance tuning and production support tasks

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a senior or lead developer role
  • Knowledge of lottery systems and associated business processes
  • Familiarity with auditing daily transactions and generating reports.
  • Experience with licensing systems for retailers and gaming personnel
  • Understanding of website interfaces and data exchange processes
  • Knowledge of annuity payments and IRS processing
  • Familiarity with CMOD reports and POS (Point of Sale) systems.
  • Experience with CICS and its use in back-end processing
  • Familiarity with the Core Processing System Product Set (CICS, COBOL, DB2)
  • Previous mentoring or team leadership experience
