This position is accountable for project engineering management on mid-sized to Large-sized projects, troubleshooting potential mechanical problems and recommending mechanical or process improvements to increase and maximize plant efficiency.

This position is accountable for project engineering management on mid-sized to Large-sized projects, troubleshooting potential mechanical problems and recommending mechanical or process improvements to increase and maximize plant efficiency.

Key responsibilities:
  • Plan and execute capital projects, ensuring safety and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Develop capital projects schedules and budgets.
  • Identify and evaluate productivity and cost improvement opportunities, collaborating with the CF Operations and Maintenance teams to implement enhancements.
  • Monitor key productivity metrics to optimize plant performance and identify further improvement opportunities.
  • Document work and capture best practices for knowledge sharing and process optimization.
  • Ensure proper engineering and integration of plant upgrades and equipment installations.
  • Engineer and prepare mechanical equipment specifications relative to plant modifications and repairs.
  • Leading multidisciplinary small-sized to mid-sized projects up to $10 MM. Experience leading larger project is a plus.
  • Provide oversight to 3rd party engineering, fabrication, and installation contractors.
  • Scope, estimate, design, schedule, and execute assigned projects.
  • Provide equipment-based or repair technique-based engineering support for the Engineering Department and Maintenance Department.
  • Monitor and inspect mechanical equipment during outage opportunities and turnaround at this location to ensure mechanical efficiency and initiate necessary action as deemed necessary.
  • Inspect fabricated equipment at the vendor's location relative to pre-determined specifications and monitor said vendors progress to ensure compliance with schedule.
  • Maintain satisfactory communications and relations with contractors and governmental agencies.
  • Lead or Act as major participants in contract negotiations relative to project work.
  • Prepare reports, make required disposition, and maintain necessary departmental files.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide process or mechanical engineering support to the operating areas on and as needed basis.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET accredited university required. Mechanical or Chemical degree preferred, but open to Civil, Electrical or Construction Management with applicable experience.
  • Minimum10 years of experience with leading capital project development and execution required.
  • Experience with fixed equipment and rotating equipment.
  • Experience leading projects including compressors, cooling towers, heat exchangers, electrical substations, and pressure vessels is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leading projects from front end loading engineering through executions and startup phasis.
  • Demonstrated leading external engineering consultant companies during front end loading engineering.
  • Demonstrated management/supervisory skills and contract negotiations relative to construction projects.
  • Specific knowledge and experience relative to fertilizer plant operations preferred but not required.
