Overview
Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is responsible for the full lifecycle of Microsoft's cloud infrastructure, spanning site selection, development, and operations. Our global footprint includes more than 400 datacenters in 34 countries, supported by over 165,000 miles of fiber optic cable. These facilities form the backbone of Microsoft Azure and are central to our commitment to reliable, secure, and sustainable digital infrastructure.
The CO+I Energy Analytics team builds data platforms and insights that support Microsoft's global datacenter growth and sustainability goals.
We work across the CO+I Energy Team to translate complex energy data into trusted, actionable insights that inform decisions at scale. Our work helps the Energy Team plan, operate, and optimize responsibly as Microsoft continues to grow its cloud footprint worldwide and solidify its leadership in providing infrastructure for the global AI economy.
We value diverse perspectives, a growth mindset, and data-driven problem solving. Our team takes a collaborative, end-to-end approach to challenges-combining technical rigor with curiosity and continuous learning-to deliver meaningful impact.
As a Data and Applied Scientist for Energy Analytics, you will focus on developing the data infrastructure necessary to operate and scale one of the world's largest corporate energy portfolios. The candidate will work across sustainability reporting, energy markets, data center operations and other cross-functional teams to build efficient architecture and integrate across these pillars to deliver solutions for the Energy team. The candidate will have the ability to ensure efficient and reliable delivery of data solutions across design, building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and other Azure infrastructure (blob storage, VMs, etc.) to automate deployment and integration workflows, as well as work closely with end users and reporting teams to understand requirements and develop targeted solutions.
The candidate will have the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, get up to speed on new data sources or technologies quickly, and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences. They will bring an innovative, collaborative presence to the role to enable energy analytics to scale our portfolio with confidence, helping the business realize growth goals, lower costs, and meet sustainability targets. This role will provide the candidate a unique opportunity to join a high impact team and gain exposure to business-critical topics of energy markets and cloud infrastructure.
