Job Description
As a Cloud Engineer, you will architect, build, and design solutions that integrate public cloud services to support mission-critical federal operations. Your day-to-day work will involve deploying and configuring cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code methodologies, ensuring repeatable and secure deployment of resources across Azure and AWS environments. You'll play a vital role in supporting software development teams within a DevOps framework, providing technical expertise that directly impacts the agency's ability to deliver transportation solutions to millions of Americans.

This position exists to modernize and maintain the cloud infrastructure that powers essential federal transportation systems. You'll collaborate closely with development teams, security specialists, and cloud leadership to understand workload requirements, optimize resource utilization, and continuously improve the agency's cloud security posture. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and update cloud environment configurations to establish and support application workloads, including Azure Subscriptions, Resource Groups, VNets, App Services, Virtual Machines, and AWS Accounts, VPCs, load balancers, Transit Gateway, and CloudFront
  • Design and build automation platforms utilizing Infrastructure as Code methodologies with CloudFormation and/or Terraform
  • Execute shell scripting and command-line operations to manage cloud resources efficiently
  • Provide operational support by completing requests, communicating level of effort estimates, and reporting status to cloud leadership
  • Support data calls for provisioned cloud resources and maintain accurate reporting on resource status and utilization
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve the agency's security posture within cloud environments
  • Collaborate with external development teams to understand and optimize cloud workload solution architectures
  • Implement and maintain security controls, policy configurations, resource tagging, and billing oversight across cloud platforms

Required Experience/Skills
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience deploying and configuring application workloads within Microsoft Azure Commercial Cloud or AWS Cloud
  • 7+ years of total hands-on experience with technology infrastructure components including compute, network, and storage
  • Demonstrated understanding of principles for configuring and supporting application workloads within Azure or AWS Cloud environments
  • Experience with shell scripting and command-line interface operations
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset
  • Active Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain one (U.S. Citizenship required)

Nice-to-Haves
  • AWS Solutions Architect Associate and/or Azure Administrator Associate certifications (or higher)
  • Proficiency in automating processes with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Packer, PowerShell, or Python, including use of remote APIs
  • Experience with cloud orchestration tools and continuous delivery processes
  • Working knowledge of containers and container orchestration systems with hardening practices
  • Experience assessing, customizing, and optimizing emerging cloud technologies and platforms
  • Background working in federal government or highly regulated environments
  • Personal interest in infrastructure modernization and DevOps methodologies

Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.

Pay & Benefits Summary
