Department Overview

MassDOT Digital Services acts as a Center of Excellence for web content and digital accessibility. The team manages content for consistency and accessibility, provides editorial guidance, and supports training. Expertise includes:
  • Graphic design
  • UI/UX
  • Writing and editing for the web
  • Accessibility best practices


Position Overview

The Digital Services Content Lead serves as the primary contact for public-facing content on mass.gov and internal intranet content. This is not a developer role. Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with stakeholders
  • Supervising contractors
  • Strategizing digital initiatives for content consistency and accessibility compliance


Responsibilities
  • Write and edit internal/external communications
  • Track and improve digital content performance
  • Ensure website issues (broken links, errors) are resolved promptly
  • Develop standards, policies, and guidelines for content
  • Coordinate CMS usage and training
  • Assess and prioritize digital content enhancements
  • Recommend authoring and publishing tools
  • Ensure compliance with WCAG accessibility standards and plain language requirements
  • Oversee intranet governance and content reviews
  • Manage social media responsibilities, including video posting and newsletters


Experience & Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Strong writing and editing for digital communications
  • Experience with WCAG accessibility standards
  • Understanding of UI/UX best practices
  • Knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in high-pressure environments
  • Leadership experience and team management
  • Customer service orientation
  • Basic project management principles


Education
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in web content design, implementation, and support
