Summary

The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia mission is to enforce the criminal laws of the United States and the District of Columbia, represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, and respond to the public safety needs of the community by leading an effective, well-coordinated law enforcement effort that contributes to the overall goal of improving the quality of life in the District of Columbia.

This Information Technology Specialist (CUSTSTP) provides support by performing a variety of IT tasks associated with the day-to-day operations and administration of IT systems.

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Information Technology Specialist (CUSTSTP) support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia, located in Washington, District of Columbia, focusing in the areas of IT support and information needs using network hardware and software capabilities.

Typical work assignments will include:

  • Participates in planning, coordinating, and delivering IT customer support services.
  • Designs, tests and implements Intranet/Internet activities.
  • Implements information systems security programs and policies.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required basic requirement AND specialized experience or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:

Basic Requirement:

You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:


1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must also possess:

Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) two (2) of the three (3) duties listed below:

(1) assisting in the installation and/or maintenance of information technology assignments;

(2) providing IT customer support;

(3) maintaining internal and/or external websites.

OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree; or a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level. (You must provide transcripts)

To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must also possess:

Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) three (3) of the four (4) duties listed below

(1) Implementing policies and/or procedures to provide IT customer support;

(2) Providing advice and/or guidance on IT issues;

(3) Evaluating and/or recommending new or enhanced approaches to delivering IT services;

(4) Providing leadership on group IT projects.

OR completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or (3) three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development of adaptation of applications, systems, or networks. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.

One year at the GS-07 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level.

One year at the GS-09is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level.
