The Role

To strengthen our motorsports program, we are seeking a skilled engineer to support the management, development, and maintenance of our virtual track inventory across all race series. This role is critical in delivering high-fidelity virtual assets that directly contribute to on-track performance improvements.

As part of this position, you will collaborate cross-functionally with GM vehicle dynamics engineers and other internal teams to capture and analyze track scan data-primarily in the form of LiDAR-and transform it into highly accurate and efficient track models. These models will integrate seamlessly with our offline and Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL) simulation toolchains.

We are looking for someone who consistently delivers high-quality work, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and proactively engages with the broader GM and GM Motorsports simulation communities. Your contributions will play a key role in enhancing the realism and effectiveness of our simulation capabilities.

What You'll Do
  • Define methods for accurately capturing LiDAR data of road/track surfaces
  • In collaboration with our software engineers, design and develop tools/processes that can accurately and efficiently work with large point clouds for the purpose of analysis, cleanup, fitting etc.
  • Create track surface models from varying data sources for use in our offline and DiL simulation toolchains
  • Work with GM Motorsports groups to generate modeling updates which capture specific on-track conditions
  • Document and communicate track modeling updates across all relevant GM Motorsports groups
  • Investigate, define and develop methods for graphical model creation utilizing point cloud data for use in our DiL toolchain
  • Manage broad cross functional relationships between teams in GM
  • Be part of the broader Vehicle Dynamics team seeking to continuously improve and investigate methods to develop and utilize the simulation toolchain and increase race team performance
