Job Title: Senior Middleware Specialist / Solution Architect (Enterprise Systems)

Duration: 12 months (anticipated start: July 2025)

Employment Type: Contract (W-2 or C2C)

Pay Rate: Competitive / DOE

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Middleware Specialist / Solution Architect to support the engineering, integration, and maintenance of enterprise-level applications using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products. The consultant will act as a technical lead, supporting middleware services and performing solution architecture work for a large-scale public-sector system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and support for middleware components of enterprise applications.
  • Lead efforts to enhance, upgrade, and maintain existing systems and subsystems.
  • Administer and troubleshoot Java-based applications and middleware environments.
  • Integrate and customize COTS products to meet business needs.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards, and best practices.
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer to internal teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support BI/reporting platforms such as SAS, Cognos, and OBIEE.
  • Deliver consistent knowledge transfer and detailed project documentation.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • 15 years of expert-level experience with COTS system integration.
  • 5 years of experience as a solution architect for enterprise applications.
  • 5 years of experience managing Java-based applications.
  • 5 years of experience supporting BI/reporting tools such as SAS, Cognos, or OBIEE.
  • 5 years of experience as a middleware specialist supporting large-scale applications (preferably in the retirement or benefits domain).
  • 5 years of experience writing standards, procedures, and conducting training.
  • 4 years (within the last 4) working with Microsoft cloud technologies, including Azure App Service, Azure Front Door, Azure AD B2C, and Dynamics Fraud Protection.
  • Experience supporting government or public sector systems.
  • Familiarity with large retirement systems or platforms similar to myCalPERS.
