Job Description

30% - Provide support to campus support staff when requested.
20% - Install, upgrade, image, and configure computer hardware and software.
20% - Troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
10% - Maintain accurate hardware inventory.
10% - Provide basic technical support via phone, email, chat, or in person.
5% - Create and update support tickets in ticket management system.
5% - Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week as stated and evidenced by application materials.
  2. Experience using or managing Windows, Mac and/or Linux operating systems as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Experience troubleshooting computer hardware and software issues as evidenced by application materials.
  4. Experience working in a customer service centric environment as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials, experience, and possible interview.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous professional experience supporting/troubleshooting computer hardware and software as evidenced by application materials.
  2. Experience using or managing Dell computer hardware as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Experience using or managing multi-function devices (print/fax/scan devices) as evidenced by application materials.
  4. Experience using a ticketing system (ServiceNow, Remedy, etc.) as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Experience using a configuration management solution (Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager) as evidenced by application materials.
  6. Experience supporting AV technology in a classroom or event environment as evidenced by application materials.
  7. Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of LAN / WAN principles and protocols as evidenced by application materials.
  8. Experience in creating technical documentation as evidenced by application materials.
  9. Able to work over academic, holiday, and summer breaks as stated and evidenced by application materials.
  10. Eligible for Federal Work Study.


Position Overview

The Student IT Support Technician position is responsible for working as a part of a team to provide technical support for end users at the University of Kansas - Lawrence Campus. This position must be able to work during the following days/times:
  • Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Position Requirements

  1. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
  2. Must have a valid current driver's license, as verified by the department.
  3. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
