JOB DESCRIPTION/POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

HVAC Controls Technicians install, repair, and maintain computer-based systems that control and monitor a building's mechanical and electrical equipment including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), and energy management systems. Technicians apply knowledge of various building trades such as electrical, mechanical, telecommunications, and information systems networks to computer-based control systems and building automation with environmental control energy equipment in commercial and industrial buildings. They interface with customers, architects, engineers, and contractors to install and service building automation systems including project start-up and commissioning. Technicians are responsible for troubleshooting, fixing, and updating HVAC systems and associated controls; downloading, updating, and verifying software accuracy; and calibrating and testing HVAC systems and controls. Technicians must be well versed in a variety of building systems including environmental energy equipment such as heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems, heat pumps, and boilers; air handlers, variable air volume and mixing boxes; chillers and related equipment; fire alarm interfaces and water leak detection.

REQUIRED SKILLS/SPECIAL TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:

Demonstrate knowledge of installing, trouble shooting, and replacing HVAC electronic or digital automation controls, such as Honeywell, Trane, Andover, JCI/ Metasys, Carrier, Schneider Electric, and Tridium / Niagara. Deep understanding of the fundamentals of temperature, flow, level, and pressure instrumentation as well as calibration principles as related with Building Automation Systems (BAS). Ability to interpret piping & instrumentation drawings, apply techniques of final control devices, and maintain instrumentation documentation for HVAC controls. Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate loop checking techniques, and startup of a control system. Experience servicing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and installing HVAC systems and related equipment. Ability to diagnoses and repair Computer based building environment and energy management control systems. Knowledge of one or more automation software languages such as PID loops, Ladder Logic, and various Codes to perform modifications to the system logic architecture. Troubleshoot, repair, and replace HVAC controls components as needed. Experience with chiller, cooling tower, compressor, AHU, VAV, FCU, controls for commercial systems is desired. Assists in field proposals for retrofits, upgrades and or enhancements to existing equipment. Collaborate with Systems engineering, shops, project management and/or subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities. Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings. May assist with job layouts and bid proposals. Participate in extensive training to improve and maintain technical proficiency in various company's product lines building on your skill set. Completes certifications as required by the company. May provide field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software. Comply all safety requirements directed by EPA, OSHA, NASA, ANSI, FDEP, CFR, KNPR, and local policies in all aspects of shop duties. Comply with Federal, State, local, NASA, Air Force, FAA, USFA, DHS, and US Coast Guard laws, regulations, and requirements. Knowledge of ASHRAE Guides and Standards for Air quality and testing methods. Perform all other related duties as assigned by management. Skilled in use of tools common to the trade including electric meters, handheld powered tools, Laptop computers to connect to and diagnose equipment. Perform preventive maintenance for HVAC Controls equipment throughout base.

EDUCATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

4- 7 years of HVAC experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent and
    • A recognized apprenticeship training program plus 4 years of experience OR
    • Military or Civilian vocational training plus 4 years of experience OR
    • 5 years of direct work-related skills, knowledge, and experience
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain job related Licenses, Certifications etc. required by Federal, State, local, NASA and Air Force standards, rules and regulations
