Overview
Senior Database Administrator
Location: Washington Navy Yard, Washington D.C.
Position Overview
The Senior Database Administrator will support the Naval Sea Systems Command Safety and Regulatory Compliance Directorate (NAVSEA 09), specifically the Navy Modernization Planning and Sustainability Department (NAVSEA 09P). This role is responsible for the administration, testing, implementation, and sustainment of database systems supporting the Navy Data Environment (NDE) and ship modernization efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Administer, test, and implement secure and reliable database systems supporting Navy modernization programs.
Ensure cybersecurity and data security compliance across all database platforms.
Maintain and optimize database performance, integrity, and availability.
Support the configuration, integration, and sustainment of the Navy Data Environment (NDE).
Collaborate with systems engineers and software developers to ensure seamless data flow and system interoperability.
Provide technical support for database-related issues, including troubleshooting and resolution.
Develop and maintain database documentation, including installation/migration instructions and cutover plans.
Support the development and execution of test plans, use cases, and deployment readiness reviews.
Ensure compliance with DoD/DoN Procedures and Policies (DoD 5000 process).
Responsibilities
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Demonstrated expertise in cybersecurity, data security, and regulatory compliance.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in database administration, testing, and implementation.
Experience supporting DOD/Navy operations and modernization initiatives.
Familiarity with NIST SP 800-37 and other relevant cybersecurity frameworks.
Able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Engineering or Business Management.
Database-specific certifications (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server).
15+ years of experience in DOD/Navy database operations and compliance.
Experience with Navy Data Environment (NDE) and related modernization tools.
