Job Details
One of SGA's top Energy clients is looking for a Senior Estimator for a contract role in Detroit, MI. The ideal candidate will support utility infrastructure projects - primarily pipeline/gas construction or utility electrical work. The role focuses on developing and maintaining accurate cost estimates, supporting project controls, and ensuring consistency and credibility across project estimates and schedules.

Responsibilities
- Develop, monitor, and update detailed cost estimates for construction and utility projects.
- Interpret engineering drawings (civil, mechanical, or electrical) to perform accurate quantity takeoffs.
- Utilize estimating software (InEight Estimate) to build and analyze cost models.
- Collaborate with project management to align estimates with project schedules and plans.
- Review and validate estimate assumptions, contingencies, and risk models.
- Maintain historical cost data, benchmarks, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Provide support and guidance to project teams on estimating best practices, standards, and methodologies.
- Assist in cost analysis, cash flow forecasting, and financial performance reporting.
- 6+ years of professional estimating experience, including 4+ years in pipeline/gas or utility electrical construction.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Construction, or Electrical Engineering.
- Or Associate degree with 8+ years relevant experience.
- Or High school diploma/GED with 10+ years relevant experience.
- Proven ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in estimating software (InEight Estimate preferred); familiarity with project control tools such as Primavera P6 a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a matrixed project environment.
- Background in utility or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Experience integrating cost estimates with project schedules and controls (Primavera, Excel, or similar).
- Knowledge of project cost structures, labor/material classifications, and risk-based estimating.
- Understanding of industry standards, cost databases, and performance analysis methods.
