Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
Travelers Data Engineering team constructs pipelines that contextualize and provide easy access to data by the entire enterprise. As a VP, Data Engineering you will drive growth and transformation of our analytics landscape. In this role, you will oversee teams designing and building data solutions that capture, explore, transform and utilize data to support Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and business intelligence/insights. You will leverage your story-telling ability when ingesting data from multiple sources and relaying information and actionable insights to partners and decision makers. As an effective leader you will select, develop, mentor and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

In Personal Insurance Data & Analytics, this role will lead efforts to evolve and mature highly successful Data Engineering, Data Management, and Data Solutions teams. You will be responsible for building data pipelines and implementing AI and ML models in support of various analytics teams and functions including Data Science, Decision Science, and Insights Delivery. The role will also provide strategic direction to the Data Management teams, ensuring data is consistent, trustworthy, and properly utilized. This senior leader will also represent Personal Insurance as an enterprise partner, helping shape company-wide best practices in Data Management, Data Engineering, and MLOps.
What Will You Do?
  • Drive the long-term strategy around analytic data products, movement, data consumption patterns, and persistence capability.
  • Align data strategies and consumption patterns with enterprise architectures, platforms and application infrastructure.
  • Set the data engineering strategy to ensure secure, supported and scalable solutions.
  • Present recommendations to executives and negotiates and influences executive leadership decisions.
  • Guide data engineering group leaders and directors to advance their subject matter expertise and to develop future leaders to meet Travelers' business objectives.
  • Oversee and direct the development of functional business plans with direct impact on company revenue, expense, and growth.
  • Act as a "trusted advisor" across the company and are recognized as an external expert.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM related field or equivalent.
  • Fifteen or more years of related work experience.
  • Eight or more years of leading teams.
  • Industry level expertise of capabilities and direction of technology coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the technology required and the needs of business environments necessary to drive the functional strategy.
  • Excellent ability to use and coach others on ETL / Data Integration tools, one or more Data platforms, and Cloud Computing Technologies and related emerging technology.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influencing skills with the ability to present complex information to senior leadership and functional partners in relevant business terms.
  • Advanced understanding of overall physical and logical data model and of data relationships, mapping, lineage and business rules.


What is a Must Have?
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training with data tools, techniques, and manipulation.
  • Nine years of data engineering or equivalent experience
  • Three years of previous management experience.
