Network Engineer 3 with Optical experience

This is a full time direct hire opportunity with us. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Optical Network Engineer 3 to join our team. This role is responsible for designing, deploying, configuring, and maintaining our optical network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with optical transport networks, the ability to interpret complex project documentation, and the skills to work independently under general supervision.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in optical transport deployment, operations, and maintenance Proven experience with optical network providers or vendors in operations or engineering roles
• Expertise in building optical networking infrastructure and working with related equipment and systems Hands-on experience with Nokia PSS, Cisco NCS2015, and Ciena 6500 platforms
• Strong knowledge of OTN, SONET, and DWDM technologies Understanding of routing protocols, optical transport systems, provisioning, and troubleshooting
• Ability to perform critical network changes on live customer circuits without impacting unaffected services
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to interpret complex work packages, execute tasks independently, and deliver projects on schedule

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in building and managing large-scale optical networking infrastructure
• Familiarity with common service configurations for optical transport systems
• Creative problem-solving skills with a high degree of autonomy in decision-making
• Leadership/management experience
• Additional Requirements Ability to work maintenance windows that may be outside of normal business hours

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, configure, and maintain optical transport networks, including: Building networks, commissioning hardware, and completing Operational Readiness Tests (ORTs)
• Decommissioning obsolete equipment Execute complex work packages and designs received via workflow tools, including: Interpreting and validating Project Development Guides (PDGs) against existing physical networks Verifying material orders and ensuring equipment aligns with project requirements
• Coordinating with other teams to complete work requests
• Developing detailed Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and executing them through the Change Request (CRQ) process Deploy and provision optical network elements and services, including Ethernet, wavelength, and OTN circuits Perform scheduled maintenance activities, such as network augments, optimizations, and troubleshooting during maintenance windows
• Provide Tier II technical support for Provisioning, ENOC, and Operations teams Troubleshoot and provision key optical transport equipment, including: Nokia PSS Cisco NCS2015 Ciena 6500 Maintain accurate documentation, update ticket statuses, and ensure complete records for all assignments
