Job Title: Data Governance Manager

Location: Houston, TX 77077 - Onsite

Job Summary:

As the Data Governance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and maintaining robust data governance practices within our organization. Working closely with the Director of Data Governance and other key stakeholders, you will drive the development and execution of strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing data management, quality, security, and accessibility. From overseeing the establishment of governance structures to leading the creation of data catalogs and providing mentorship to business analysts, you will be instrumental in fostering a data-driven culture and ensuring compliance with data handling regulations. Essential Functions:

  1. Strategic Roadmap Development: Collaborate closely with the Director of Data Governance to devise and implement the strategic roadmap for Data Governance initiatives.

  2. Data Management Collaboration: Partner with the Director of Data & Analytics to oversee various aspects of data management, including Data Security, Data Quality, Data Glossary creation, Data Retention policies, and Self-Service reporting.

  3. Establishing Governance Structures: Assist in establishing the Data Governance Committee, responsible for identifying Master Data, Data Owners, and Data Stewards, ensuring robust governance practices.

  4. GST Data Catalog Management: Lead the creation and management of the GST Data catalog, ensuring uniformity in naming conventions, comprehensive data descriptions, and standardized KPIs for enhanced data accessibility and reliability across the organization.

  5. Role Definition and Documentation: Identify Data Owners and Stewards, and develop comprehensive RACI matrices for each role. Develop and maintain documentation and succession plans for Data Stewards across business streams.

  6. Training Strategy Development: Develop a strategic approach to training business users in data access and utilization. Facilitate cross-training initiatives among Business Analysts to enhance overall data literacy within the organization.

  7. Business Request Management: Act as the primary gatekeeper for business requests, overseeing the intake process and ensuring thorough engagement from business stakeholders in providing functional requirements.

  8. Business Analyst Mentorship: Provide mentorship and training to Business Analysts, focusing on enhancing their understanding of requirements processes and fostering knowledge of key business functions and KPIs.

  9. Source System Management: Identify and manage source systems for analytics purposes, including S4 Hana, ME, and external sources, ensuring data integrity and availability for analytical purposes.

  10. Business-Technology Liaison: Serve as a liaison between business and technology teams for Data & Analytics initiatives, fostering effective communication and collaboration between the two functions.

  11. Partnership Development: Develop and nurture strong partnerships with business and technology leadership to drive alignment and support for Data Governance objectives.

  12. Data Handling Compliance: Responsibly handle consumer and customer data in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to data privacy and security regulations.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in data governance, data management, or a related field.
  • In-depth understanding of data governance frameworks, principles, and best practices.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive cross-functional collaboration and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in implementing data governance tools and technologies is desirable.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) is a plus.
  • Certification in data management or governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP) is advantageous.
