Job Details ABOUT
We are seeking an experienced LANSA Design Engineer / Developer to support the modernization, enhancement, and maintenance of applications built on our client's LANSA platform. The ideal candidate will have strong experience designing and developing LANSA-based solutions on IBM i (AS/400) systems, with a focus on application architecture, user interface design, data modeling, and system integration.
This role requires both technical expertise and design thinking, as you ll be responsible for translating business requirements into scalable, maintainable, and user-friendly LANSA applications.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and enhance business applications using Visual LANSA, RDML/RDMLX, and LANSA Repository.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical designs and workflows.
  • Define and maintain repository fields, files, logical views, and business rules for application data models.
  • Design and implement user interfaces (UI) for desktop, web, and mobile applications using Visual LANSA Frameworks.
  • Integrate LANSA applications with external systems via LANSA Integrator, web services (REST/SOAP), and APIs.
  • Participate in system modernization projects migrating legacy RPG or green-screen applications to LANSA-based graphical or web-enabled interfaces.
  • Optimize application performance, data access, and error handling.
  • Support application deployments, testing, and documentation in collaboration with IT operations.
  • Provide production support and troubleshoot issues in existing LANSA applications.

REQUIRED

  • 5+ years of experience in LANSA development and design (Visual LANSA, RDML, RDMLX).
  • Strong understanding of IBM iSeries (AS/400) environments and DB2/400 databases.
  • Hands-on experience designing and maintaining LANSA Repository objects (fields, files, components).
  • Experience integrating LANSA applications using LANSA Integrator or LANSA Composer.
  • Proficiency in application design, data modeling, and user interface design within LANSA.
  • Familiarity with RPGLE, CL, or related IBM i programming languages (preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a focus on solution-oriented design.

PREFERRED

  • Experience migrating or modernizing legacy applications to LANSA Framework or web-based LANSA solutions.
  • Exposure to Agile development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of version control systems, CI/CD, or DevOps pipelines in IBM i environments.
  • Experience in ERP, distribution, or manufacturing systems that leverage LANSA or IBM i.
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent work experience).
