Description
Typical month:
90% time doing= Testing new firmware on modems (the devices that go into the customers homes to provide internet or voice service)
10% time doing =Component of also doing the actual deployments, that's all done through tools that we schedule the work to run through. So its scheduling work to get done through those systems
This person will be testing the code on the device, so a bit of both (between testing code or testing device), but more of the firmware testing side.
What exactly will they be testing inside of this hardware? Can you give 4-5 examples what they are actually testing? Or what they are testing for?
They are testing to ensure the modem operates as expected in the production environment. So, validating firmware upgrade/downgrade behavior, validate device performance (speeds, etc.), validate device adheres to DHCP spec, validate bugs found in previous firmware versions are fixed, validate new features work as expected, etc.. along with these validations comes the troubleshooting piece when they find things that do not pass the tests. If a failure is found, we'd be the team to work with vendors to determine the root cause and validate any fixes that are required.
Testing (intent is to find the issues before we push it out to client home):
--Troubleshooting
--when an issue is found on that new code, we would expect to work through testing and trying to figure out what is the cause of this issue so they can get reported back and fix. Testing and troubleshooting combined
run it through a shorter version of testing in actual production environment. Tim's team does more in depth testing, does it actually work on the network like it did in the lab
A quality assurance analyst creates tests to find any problems with software before the product is launched. They identify and analyze any bugs found during testing and document them. They also must to pay very close attention to detail and coach their team on managing testing tools, reporting results, and motivating process improvement. A normal work day for a quality assurance engineer includes developing new tests to run, running the tests, and documenting the results; if any defects are noted the quality assurance analysts will need to collaborate with the software developers to find a fix and patch the program. Once the defect has been patched, they will need to run the test again to make sure there are no new bugs and to make sure the defect found has been corrected.
