Job Summary:

The Junior GIS Specialist will support the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's (FWS) Information Resources and Technology Management Directorate, Data Management Division, Geospatial Data Services Branch. This role will assist senior GIS staff in managing geospatial systems, performing data analysis, and supporting training and documentation tasks.

The position requires a minimum of 2 years of professional GIS experience and an Associate's degree or higher. Candidates must have hands-on experience with Esri's ArcGIS suite and a strong interest in expanding their expertise in geospatial data management, enterprise GIS systems, and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the operation and maintenance of ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Online, ArcMap, and ArcGIS Pro.
Support the preparation, editing, and maintenance of geospatial data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with FWS standards.
Contribute to metadata management, data quality checks, and geospatial standards implementation.
Provide support in the development and delivery of geospatial training courses and materials.
Assist with creating communication and automation tools in SharePoint Online.
Participate in daily/weekly/monthly project meetings, providing updates on assigned tasks.
Develop geospatial data products, maps, and technical documentation under the direction of senior staff.
Support ETL (Extraction, Transformation, Load) processes using Safe Software's FME product line.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of professional experience working with Esri's ArcGIS suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
Familiarity with geospatial data management practices, standards, and analysis techniques.
Experience with SharePoint Online and a willingness to learn FME (Desktop/Server).
Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate geospatial products.
Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Associate's degree or higher in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Information Systems, or related field.

Deliverables & Expectations

Timely completion of assigned geospatial support tasks and deliverables.
Contribution to the production of geospatial data products and documentation in standard industry formats.
Participation in FWS Help Desk support as directed by task managers.
Development of high-quality outputs under the guidance of senior GIS staff.

Preferred Skills

Prior experience working with Federal agencies or natural resource organizations.
Familiarity with federal IT compliance and data management standards.
Knowledge of open data publishing and enterprise GIS administration.
