Job Details

Blue Omega is seeking a Mainframe COBOL Support Specialist to join a team providing ongoing maintenance, ticket resolution, and production support for legacy systems supporting our federal client. This role is heavily operations-focused, with responsibilities centered on monitoring, troubleshooting, and sustaining critical batch processing and mainframe environments. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in COBOL, batch, and job control language (JCL) operations within a production support capacity, with the ability to quickly address issues raised through incident and service tickets. This remote role will require working core EST work hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in requirements analysis, user acceptance testing (UAT), and Agile sprint activities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to maintain scalable, efficient COBOL applications.
  • Write, maintain, and optimize COBOL and JCL code for batch and transactional processes.
  • Test, deploy, and debug applications in a production environment.
  • Maintain documentation throughout the full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Provide technical support and serve as a subject matter expert for supported applications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in a technical or business discipline (8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting COBOL applications in a mainframe production environment.
  • Proficiency with JCL and mainframe batch processing operations.
  • Experience with troubleshooting file transfer and ETL-related issues in a legacy systems context.
  • Familiarity with CICS, Connect:Direct, and other mainframe middleware tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a ticket-based support model.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across technical and business teams.

Salary range: $85,000-$104,000

Our final salary offer will be based on several factors, including depth of technical skills, work experience, education, certifications, and clearance
