Job Description: Mainframe Developer / Analyst

Location: Omaha, NE (Onsite/Hybrid)
Duration: 6 12 months (Contract)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer / Analyst to join our team in Omaha, NE. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS with proven experience in mainframe application development, maintenance, and production support. This role requires excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in fast-paced environments supporting critical business applications.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, develop, test, and implement mainframe applications.
• Support existing mainframe applications including incident management and root-cause analysis.
• Develop and maintain COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS components.
• Perform batch job scheduling, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and other developers to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, unit testing, and integration testing.
• Provide on-call support for production systems as required.
• Create and maintain technical documentation.

Required Skills

• 7+ years of experience in Mainframe development and support.
• Strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, CICS.
• Experience with debugging and performance tuning on z/OS.
• Knowledge of job schedulers (CA7, Control-M, or equivalent).
• Proficiency with utilities such as FILE-AID, XPEDITER, SYNCSORT.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Strong communication and analytical skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in mainframe modernization initiatives (API enablement, re-platforming).
• Knowledge of Assembler programming.
• Exposure to cloud integration or distributed systems.
• Prior experience in financial services, insurance, or banking domain (preferred in Omaha market).
