Job Summary
Responsible for coordinating the operation of several complex data base files. Under minimal supervision performs aspects of Database Administration including, hardware and software evaluation and installation, logical and physical database design and implementation, structured testing of database designs, security administration, backup and recovery planning, performance and tuning, research and evaluation of new tools and techniques and development of policies, standards and procedures. Participates with the implementation and support of development systems, QA systems and production systems at data centers, including all network and systems-related infrastructure components. Has in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in own discipline. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Job Description
Core Responsibilities
- Communicates and understands impact of database changes to affected parties and makes recommendations, as appropriate. Maintains hardware platforms to perform at optimum response, capacity planning and implementation of new databases due to conversions.
- Consults with Project Managers to design appropriate solutions. Assists the development teams with application schema designs and applies best practices.
- Commissions and installs new applications.
- Assists with leading a task force to develop and implement a database that addresses business needs. Advises on new database technologies, trends and features.
- Develops, revises and implements policies, standards, procedures and guidelines necessary to effectively administer the database environment.
- Develops, manages and tests backup and recovery plans.
- Designs/tunes, maintains and supports database systems for highly available, high-volume internet applications.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

BDI Core Responsibilities:
- Core DBA Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Database Administration Support: monitor job performance and database servers, optimization
- Monitor servers (database, admin, lower environment and production)
- Daily Review of Database and Server Health, sending alerts and notifications to management where appropriate (i.e., M-S 6am EST)
- Daily Review of DevOps Envt Alerts channel and action taken where needed
- Create additional Monitoring, Health Checks, and Alerts where needed to proactively seeks issues before they occur
- Provide Trending of specific issues, identify root cause, and recommend solutions, report out to team monthly
- Off hours support for Monthly Patching (Weekday evenings, ensure BXT patching is successful and BDI servers rebooted in maintenance window) and other off hours support as needed
- Database Health
- Manage/Monitor Production Database health; i.e., Application or SQL Server Instance level. Tasks include but not limited to:
- Base performance; i.e., index management, blocks, wait type management, sync management, etc.
- Database storage management
- Database accessibility/state
- Manage SQL Instance failovers
- Monitor Always On latency between primary and secondary replicas
- Priority is Production, but this applies to all environments in priority order (Production, PreProd/Staging, QA, Development)
Additional Responsibilities:
- Server Health
- Manage/Monitor Production Server health; i.e., OS or Cluster level. Tasks include but not limited to:
- Server performance i.e., CPU, Disk I/O, Network Latency, etc.
- Drive storage management
- Cluster role management
- Server/Cluster accessibility/state
- Manage Node Failover
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary. Support hours include responding to alerts during off-hours and on weekends, in addition to validating planned maintenance.
