Description

Role Overview / Summary
  • The Sr Engineering Manager will serve as the opinion leader and accountable owner for the strategic Enterprise Query Hub (EQH) platform on Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform). EQH is the operational data store that consolidates customer, account, and transaction data in near real time from Systems of Record (SORs). The platform enables customer-facing applications to query a consistent, low-latency copy of SOR data-significantly reducing direct reads to SORs, while laying the foundation for the bank's growth plans.

Core Responsibilities
  • Platform strategy & roadmap: Define, communicate, govern, and implement the multi-year EQH strategy across Bigtable, Dataflow (Apache Beam), Cloud Composer (Airflow), and Python.
  • Stakeholder management: Communicate plans, risks, and outcomes to business, technology partners, and risk/compliance stakeholders.
  • Operational data store design: Own data models, partitioning, and schema evolution for Google Bigtable to meet high-throughput and low-latency query patterns.
  • Near-real-time ingestion & synchronization: Lead event-driven pipelines (Pub/Sub Dataflow) and scheduled file ingestion (Cloud Composer/Airflow DAGs).
  • Reliability & SRE: Establish SLOs/SLAs, observability, disaster recovery, multi-region resiliency, and incident management practices.
  • Security, risk & compliance: Enforce encryption, tokenization/masking, and data protection best practices.
  • Consumer enablement APIs: Provide clear contracts and documentation for consuming apps.
  • SOR offload outcomes: Partner with SOR owners to achieve measurable reductions in query volumes.
  • Financial transparency & FinOps: Own cloud cost governance and budget stewardship.
  • People leadership: Build and lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary engineering organization; attract, grow, and retain talent; and foster a culture of accountability, craft, and inclusion. Directly manage 12 FTE engineers and provide oversight for a significant offshore team, supporting EQH delivery.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years leading platform or data engineering teams that operate mission-critical services at scale.
  • Hands-on depth with Bigtable, Dataflow/Apache Beam, Cloud Composer/Airflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, CI/CD, on (Google Cloud Platform) Google Cloud Platform or on similar cloud technologies (AWS/Azure).
  • Proven expertise building operational data stores, event-driven architectures, and data quality controls.
  • Strong grounding in SRE/DevOps practices and security-first mindset.

Preferred
  • Google Cloud Platform Professional certifications (Cloud Architect, Data Engineer).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder influence.
