Job Details
We are seeking a skilled and reliable IT Infrastructure Field Contractor to support a multi-site infrastructure upgrade project. The contractor will travel to approximately 30 locations across Michigan, Ohio, Utah, New Mexico, and other states over the next 3-4 months. This role involves hands-on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IT hardware and network equipment, as well as providing onsite help desk and systems administration support.
Key Responsibilities
Travel to assigned sites to perform infrastructure upgrades and related tasks.
Install, configure, and replace network equipment including firewalls, switches, and wireless access points.
Rack and stack network equipment and mount racks as needed.
Perform network punch down and cabling tasks to ensure proper network connectivity.
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot IT hardware and network equipment, ensuring minimal downtime.
Support help desk tasks while onsite, resolving user issues related to hardware, software, and connectivity.
Perform laptop and hardware installs/refreshes as part of site upgrades.
Execute systems administration duties, including:
Installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems and application software on servers and workstations.
Monitoring system performance, logs, and network health to ensure optimal operation.
Applying patches, updates, and security fixes to systems and software.
Managing user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
Performing regular system backups and testing restore processes.
Troubleshooting and resolving server, network, and system issues to minimize downtime.
Documenting system configurations, changes, and procedures for future reference.
Document work performed and escalate complex issues as necessary.
Qualifications
Proven experience with network equipment installation (firewalls, switches, WAPs).
Strong understanding of network cabling, punch down, and rack mounting.
Experience with IT hardware installation, troubleshooting, and refreshes.
Demonstrated experience with systems administration tasks, such as OS/software installation, patch management, user administration, and backup procedures.
Ability to provide onsite technical support and resolve end-user issues.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively (up to 100%) for the duration of the project.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Valid driver s license and ability to pass background checks as required.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft MCSA, or similar are nice to have, but not required.
- Experience working as a field technician or in a similar contractor role.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
Rate: $35-$40/hour (depends on experience level). This is a contract position with candidates expected to work 40 hours/ week. Contract duration is 3 months with possible extensions.
