Master Software Engineer (Lvl V): Individuals shall demonstrate expertise with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a variety of fields related to the project and provide mentoring and direction to Junior, Senior, and Principle engineers. This position takes direction from their assigned Product Manager and may lead and direct work of others on project specifications. They will rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, performing a variety of complicated tasks including resolution of complex software engineering issues.
The individual shall have an astute ability in writing test scripts in an agile software development environment with an emphasis on automated test procedures, and continuous integration and continuous delivery of software. The individual shall recommend improvements to existing software applications as necessary. Furthermore, individuals shall be capable/willing to perform the software tasks identified in the position's primary responsibilities while working on Government/Contractor software teams.

- Architect & build out highly performant distributed systems
- Experiment and implement appropriate emerging technologies and design patterns
- Evangelize software engineering best practices, seek adoption and demonstrate business value
- Creates software designs and architectures to deliver desired performance targets and devises tooling and methodologies to profile execution and capture performance metrics.
- Master engineers shall be experts in discussing future limitations and a forward-thinking approach to resolving roadblocks presented by current strategy
- Masterfully implements latest software architectures and trends from design patterns to DevSecOps and systems architecture patterns.
- Guides teams on technical decisions in order to migrate legacy systems to the cloud
- Directly influences strategy formulation on how to achieve rapid prototyping of capabilities.
- Analyzes and decomposes activities and requirements to software designs that are allocated across systems components/sub-components, classification system levels, etc.
- Captures, develops, and reports reference architectures and documenting compliance standards.
- Develops plans, road maps, and software design strategies.
- Mentors/teaches others troubleshooting techniques, design patterns, and testing strategies in order to train and upskill less experienced engineers.
- Maintains and guides the development of common best practices and tools used by multiple teams.
- Implements and practices DevOps Developer Enablement and mentors more junior/less experienced developrs to do same
- Drives team to perform best practices and technical knowledge among multiple teams/branches.

Required:
- Bachelors Degree plus 12+ years experience of professional Full-Stack Software development experience or a Masters degree plus 8+ years experience or PhD plus 6+ years experience (In lieu of a bachelor's degree, 4 years of directly related experience will be accepted for a total of 16 years of non-internship professional Full-Stack Software development experience)
- Degrees shall be in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics, Mathematics, etc.)
- 8 years of experience with DevSecOps tools and processes (ex. GitlabCI, Concourse, SonarQube, Fortify, etc.)
- 5 years of experience with backend runtimes and frameworks, ideally Spring Boot
- 5 years of test authoring experience (unit tests, integration tests, and journey tests)
- 5 years of experience with all of the following software engineering best practices (Test-Driven Development, Pair Programming, etc) [See Section 2.2.1]
- 4 years of experience contributing to software architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of both new and existing systems
- 4 years of experience using container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes
- 4 years training, upskilling, and/or mentoring engineers
Desired:
- Certification equivalent to DOD 8570 IAT Level II (examples; CompTIA Sec+, CCNA Security, CySA+)
- Active Secret or TS/SCI Clearance
- Access to secure environments up to TS
