Job Details
As an Assembler Developer, you need to have strong background in IBM Mainframe technologies. A typical day involves collaborating with team members to understand project needs, developing application features, and ensuring that the applications function seamlessly within the existing infrastructure. You will also engage in troubleshooting and optimizing applications to enhance performance and user experience, while adhering to best practices in software development. You should have hands-on experience in Assembler (HLASM) programming, along with working knowledge of mainframe tools like JCL, COBOL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Analyse and understand existing Assembler programs and system interfaces.
Design, develop, test, and deploy enhancements and bug fixes in Assembler.
Perform code walkthroughs and support system testing.
Assist in the documentation of application processes and workflows2,
Collaborate with cross-functional teams during migration or modernization efforts (e.g., moving to AWS or Java).
Create or update technical documentation and support production issues.
Participate in performance tuning and code optimization efforts.
Professional & Technical Skills:
Strong programming skills in IBM Assembler (HLASM).
Hands-on experience with JCL, VSAM, CICS, and DB2.
Good understanding of mainframe debugging and testing tools (e.g., Xpeditor, Abend-AID).
Knowledge of COBOL is a plus.
Familiarity with Mainframe Utilities (e.g., SORT, IDCAMS).
Ability to interpret functional requirements and convert them into technical solutions.
Exposure to modernization projects (e.g., re-engineering or re-platforming mainframe workloads).
Understanding of Agile methodologies and DevOps for mainframe (e.g., Endevor, Git, Jenkins for z/OS).
