Planning & Design Engineer (Telecom)

Location: 100% Virtual – Must reside within the Northeast Division footprint (ME, NH, VT, NJ, PA, OH, WV, VA, MD, DC, DE)

Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM EST (flexible as long as hours are consistent)

Rate: $30/hour W2


Summary
We are seeking a motivated Telecom Design Specialist to join our Fortune 30 telecommunications client. This production-driven role is focused on Coax and Fiber design across all lines of business, with a strong emphasis on drafting in Iris and coordinating with construction teams to ensure complete and accurate documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and manage construction jobs using construction management platform.
  • Draft and update designs in Iris; Iris experience is required.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to gather missing information and ensure job readiness.
  • Utilize Spatial (preferred) and other design tools to support broadband communication system planning.
  • Perform point-to-point design and wavelength reservations in alignment with network planning.
  • Assess nearby jobs for integration opportunities using Plan tools.
  • Maintain and update system maps, keys, spreadsheets, and design files.
  • Work with Excel, Word, and Google Earth for documentation and mapping tasks.
  • Ensure consistent progress and timely completion of procedural steps.
  • Regular, punctual attendance with flexibility for nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience designing in Spatial Design tools (Iris, CAD, GIS, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of Coax and Fiber design.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Earth.
  • Experience working in a queue-driven, production-focused environment.
  • Familiarity with Spatial design tools.
  • Experience in broadband communication systems and construction coordination.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Liberal Arts, Engineering, GIS, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience.
