Purpose: The Senior R&D Engineer will be responsible for concept generation, design, development, verification, validation and manufacturing transfer of new and novel Shoulder Arthroplasty systems. Individuals in this position will possess strong design capabilities and mechanical engineering knowledge. The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$89,000-$140,000
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees and/or eligible dependents are eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program. You will:
- Performs complex hands-on and simulated testing for design verification and test method developments.
- Reviews and edits all engineering documentation related to assigned projects, such as technical reports, work instructions and method and process validation.
- Leads basic engineering operations, and complex scientific evaluation on new products, technology concepts, and product development.
- Implements complex design concepts and ideas into working blueprints and drawings.
- Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.
- Applies complex algebraic and geometric formulas and advanced tool engineering data to develop product configurations.
- Inspects and oversee testing of prototypes, tools, and fixtures after fabrication to ensure that they meet specifications.
- Conceptualizes, designs, and develops new products for global applications.
- Analyzes and recommends improvements to existing products.
- Coordinates prototype production and approve design blueprints.
- Performs other duties assigned as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
- A minimum of B.S. in an engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience in product development is required.
- Masters Degree in an engineering discipline is preferred.
- Design for Six Sigma Black Belt is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in the concept generation, design and development of Class I-II medical devices, specifically experience with Orthopaedics devices is required.
- Experience designing new products that include complex mechanisms and a variety of materials and manufacturing technologies, such as titanium, cobalt-chrome, stainless steel, UHMWPE, conventional machining and 3D printing is required.
- Proficiency in NX CAD Platform, finite element analysis and complex tolerance analysis is preferred.
- Experience with computer assisted surgery technologies like robotics and navigation is preferred.
- The ability to effectively collaborate with both internal and external partners to bring solutions to market is required.
- Experience leading small projects and cross-functional teams in new product development is preferred.
- The ability to review and critically assess patents and other forms of intellectual property is preferred.
- Experience engaging with physician customers to discuss and evaluate design concepts to drive innovation is preferred.
- Demonstrated exceptional problem-solving ability required.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills are required.
- Well organized, self-motivated, energetic, creative and resourceful.
- Must demonstrate strong work ethic, leadership and teamwork qualities.
- The ability to work within a cadaver lab and operating room setting is required.
- This position may require up to 10% travel, domestic or international.
