Job purpose

This role is responsible for production and development database administration, Change Management and Data Governance for data repositories, platforms, tools and development. In this role you are expected to work closely with the database administration team, the development teams (Systems Mainframe, Systems Development, Systems Engineering and Quality Assurance) as well as the infrastructure team in the design, implementation, transition and maintenance of data solutions and ensuring associated standards and best practices for enterprise data management. This position requires 8+ years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2017/2019/2022. This position reports to the Vice President of Database Administration.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Manage the AWS database environment (Aurora PostgreSQL, EC2, RDS)
  • Manage the Snowflake data warehouse
  • Performing hands on technical DBA work including requirements gathering, data/database/ETL architecture analysis/design as part of database administration
  • Proactively monitor and performance tune databases and troubleshoot bottlenecks and system performance at the network, storage and database levels.
  • Establish regular maintenance routines for backup, recovery and optimization plans, data archive processes, data retention plans, data corruption checks
  • Support developers to design performant, scalable and optimized objects and queries
  • Provide support to Production/Staging/UAT/QA/Development databases, jobs and transactions processes
  • Follows and enforces the change control polices and database lifecycle management process
  • Install, configure, upgrade and administer database platforms, tools and utilities (Primarily, but not limited to, MS SQL Server)
  • Develop and maintain scripts for database automation tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or AWS CLI
  • Track and report daily metrics on up-time, utilization, logins, blocking, locking, etc.
  • Ability to understand complex business problems and clearly communicate with developers, quality assurance and management
  • Peer review all database/SQL changes as part of change management process
  • Restore databases for developers and QA
  • Implement database security standards
  • Create SSRS reports, standardized SQL reports and adhoc reports
  • Create and manage SSAS OLAP cubes or any other data warehouse solutions.

Qualifications

  • 8+ Years of experience with Database Administration for MS-SQL Server
  • 5+ Years of experience with AWS (RDS, EC2, S3, DMS)
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems
  • A deep understanding of technical database and development work, the impact of logical design decisions on the technical database and application infrastructures
  • Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and third party troubleshooting tools
  • Experience with Snowflake
  • Experience with PostgreSQL
  • Experience with SSIS packages, ETL implementation and troubleshooting
  • Experience with SSRS technology, designing reports
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
  • Experience with Snapshot & Transactional Replication
  • Experience in implementing operational automation using PowerShell Scripts
  • Experience with database encryption technology
  • Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, physical infrastructure and storage systems
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • BS or BA in a business or computer science related field of study
  • Experience managing and monitoring 24/7 Production database environments
