Job Title: Microsoft Dev Box Engineer (Remote)
Employment Type: Contract
Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Microsoft Dev Box Engineer to design, configure, implement, and maintain virtual development environments using Microsoft Dev Box. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Azure, endpoint management, infrastructure automation, and modern DevOps practices. This individual will play a key role in enabling streamlined, secure, and scalable development workspaces across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Architecture:
- Architect and implement Microsoft Dev Box environments tailored to development team needs.
- Define Dev Box configurations, templates, and lifecycle management strategies.
- Develop and manage provisioning workflows using Azure Dev Center.
- Configuration & Implementation:
- Deploy and configure Microsoft Dev Box infrastructure across multiple environments.
- Integrate Dev Box with Microsoft Intune, Azure Active Directory, and Endpoint Manager for secure access and compliance.
- Automate provisioning and de-provisioning processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Bicep or Terraform.
- Monitoring & Maintenance:
- Monitor performance, usage, and cost metrics to ensure optimal resource allocation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to virtual machines, user access, and Dev Box performance.
- Apply updates, patches, and policy changes to maintain a secure and compliant environment.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Partner with developers, security teams, and IT administrators to refine and scale Dev Box use.
- Provide technical support and documentation for onboarding, training, and day-to-day operations.
- Stay updated on Microsoft Dev Box and Azure ecosystem enhancements and recommend improvements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience with Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, or similar virtualized environments
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Dev Box or Azure Dev Center
- Experience with Intune, Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Endpoint Manager
- Proficiency with PowerShell, ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines and CI/CD tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect
- Experience working in secure or regulated environments (e.g., finance, healthcare)
- Familiarity with Zero Trust security principles
Work Environment:
This is a fully remote role. Candidates must have access to a reliable internet connection and be available to collaborate with global teams across time zones.
