Job Details
Summary:
The client is seeking a qualified consultant to assess the existing IP address environment, develop comprehensive documentation, and provide knowledge transfer to client staff to ensure sustainable network management practices.
Objective:
- Identify and document the client's existing IP address schema and network addressing structure.
- Develop standardised documentation and procedures for IP address management.
- Train client staff to maintain and administer the IP schema moving forward.
Scope of Work
Discovery and Assessment
- Conduct a comprehensive review of the client's IP addressing environment, including:
- IPv4 and IPv6 subnets, VLANs, and address allocations.
- Network device addressing (routers, switches, firewalls, servers, printers, etc.).
- DHCP, DNS, and IP Address Management (IPAM) configurations.
Identify:
- Subnet utilisation and allocation.
- Overlapping or unused IP ranges.
- Potential areas for standardisation or optimisation.
Documentation
Produce clear, accurate documentation of the client's IP schema, including:
- IP address inventory by site, VLAN, and subnet.
- Gateway, DNS, DHCP, and routing assignments.
- Logical and physical network diagrams (Layer 2/3).
- Addressing conventions and naming standards.
Standardization and Recommendations
- Recommend a standard IP addressing and naming convention.
- Propose best practices for IP allocation and management.
- Identify optional improvements such as IPAM tools or automation scripts. The client currently uses Service Now as its ITSM platform.
Knowledge Transfer
Conduct one or more knowledge transfer sessions with client staff to:
- Review the new IP documentation.
- Demonstrate how to update and maintain IP records.
- Discuss best practices for subnet management and change control.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in enterprise network design and IP address management.
- Expertise with TCP/IP, VLANs, subnetting, routing, and IPAM systems.
- Experience with network diagramming (Visio, or equivalent).
- Excellent documentation and technical writing skills.
- Experience with IP Address Management tools
Certifications
- CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent.
