Role: Database Admin

Location: Halifax, NS (Permanent remote)

Duration: 12+ Months

Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for using your technical knowledge of professional concepts to solve business problems. We are looking for a talented individual that can work on diverse work tasks and work with others in the department on complex assignments.
  • You will be responsible for evaluating elements of technology's effectiveness through requirements gathering, testing, research and investigation and make recommendations for improvements that result in increased performance and effectiveness.
  • As a Database Administrator, you will play a significant role in the implementation and maintenance of PostgreSQL, MariaDB and MySQL production databases. In addition, you will monitor daily database activities and overall performance, growth and tuning configurations as well as the security of the databases.
  • You will assist with process improvements and change activities. We are looking for a self-starter that will maintain established service level agreements to meet customer expectations and quality standards.
  • Requires participation in an on-call support (2 weeks on 4 weeks off rotation with other team members), and some monthly maintenance window support.

Required qualifications:

  • 5+ years of general database administration experience
  • 3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, MariaDB and MySQL databases
  • Implement and support tasks such as patching coordination, backup and recovery procedures, access management, database utilities, upgrades and data replication technologies for production and non-production environments.
  • Create and maintain scripts to automate tasks such as monitoring, export / import, and reporting.
  • Log, schedule and track all changes using change management system tools.
  • Responsible for all corrections to the database infrastructure and for repairs to the system or database.
  • Protecting our customers and our brands by incorporating security and compliance in all decisions.
  • Work with application owners and DBAs to ensure database compliance standards are maintained.

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of experience with Oracle database
  • Experience with Veritas Netbackup
  • Experience with database management on Linux.
  • Experience in database performance tuning methodology
  • Experience with HashiCorp Terraform
  • Knowledge of Linux scripting languages such as python, bash, ksh, etc.
  • Experience engineering and supporting cloud databases such as AWS Aurora and Azure database services.
  • Knowledge of JIRA and Confluence a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or related field preferred.
