Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Core Systems Programmer to provide expert-level support for IBM z15 and z16 mainframes running z/OS 2.5 and higher. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our mainframe environment, with a strong focus on federal government Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIG) compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform MVS systems programming activities including installation, customization, configuration, and maintenance of z/OS operating systems.
  • Ensure system security compliance with federal STIG requirements and support security administration (RACF, ACF2, Top Secret).
  • Manage system performance, conduct problem determination, and drive resolution of issues.
  • Support and maintain System Automation tools and processes.
  • Handle mainframe IPL processes, managing multiple z/OS LPARs.
  • Provide support for mainframe storage and backup strategies.
  • Create and manage change requests in ServiceNow (SNOW); peer review and implement changes.
  • Generate and analyze MVS system-level parameters and security reports; support audits and access certifications.
  • Assist with ACF2/RACF/Top Secret user ID definitions and security management for all regions/LPARs.
  • Support regulatory and operational controls for user provisioning, de-provisioning, and access re-certification.
  • Work hands-on working experience on Federal Mainframe environments.

Required Skills

  • 10+ years of experience installing, customizing, and maintaining z/OS operating systems.
  • 5+ years supporting a stabilized IBM mainframe system environment.
  • Proficiency with SMP/E and mainframe software maintenance tools.
  • Strong skills in performance monitoring, problem determination, and resolution.
  • Experience defining and validating data encryption and security requirements.
  • Ability to monitor and ensure security reporting and audit compliance.
  • In-depth experience with mainframe IPL processes and managing multiple z/OS LPARs.
  • Familiarity with mainframe storage and backup solutions.
  • Proficient with ServiceNow (SNOW) for change and task management.
  • Experience supporting federal mainframe environments
  • Strong consulting and interpersonal skills: flexibility, team building, and client engagement.
  • Analytical, design, and implementation skills in complex mainframe environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with z/OSMF, z/OS Container Extensions, or related modern z/OS tools.
  • Experience in federal audits and compliance reporting.
  • Certifications in IBM z/OS, Security (RACF/ACF2), or related mainframe technologies.
