Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO+I, the Global Datacenter Engineering (GDCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world's largest online services.

The Global Datacenter EPMS Engineer will fulfill a technical role for Microsoft as a global datacenter EPMS subject matter expert (SME). This role will involve supporting Microsoft's datacenter Technical Excellence program and projects globally. The successful candidate will be required to set and provide global technical support to internal GDCE EPMS subject matter experts (SME) and external consultants. This role will require deep knowledge in the design and coordination of the electrical power monitoring systems, associated electrical systems and overall topology for Microsoft's global fleet of datacenters.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and manage Microsoft's master electrical and EPMS specifications, control diagrams, sequence of operation, incorporating continuous improvement updates and aligning with emerging industry requirements.
  • Perform technical review of EPMS design documents, submittals and shop drawings to ensure Microsoft requirements are met.
  • Develop and continually improve existing processes and procedures.
  • Respond to emerging issues on multiple projects at a global scale. Work effectively with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-paced environment and facilitate cross-group collaboration and stakeholder alignment.
  • Responsible for supporting the internal DCE EPMS subject matter experts and external consultants in the design and coordination of the monitoring systems and overall topology.
  • Review and interpret electrical distribution topologies and provide recommendations for power quality monitoring at critical locations to allow for informative trending, analytics, and post incident forensic event reconstruction.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.

2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

While not required, we also look for the followingPreferred Qualifications:

In-depth knowledge of Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Branch Circuit Monitoring Systems (BCMS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)

Familiar with building systems modeling platforms such as AutoCAD, REVIT, SKM, ETAP, and other building systems software packages.

Strong experience with the design and operation of critical facilities electrical power distribution systems, power quality and circuit protection

In-depth knowledge of server platforms, virtualization theories and concepts, database design and engineering, data management and disaster recovery / planning / risk assessment

Solid knowledge of network design, including network switch and media type selection, virtual networks and various topological and architectural strategies for redundancy and security

Knowledge of construction techniques and terminology including the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and requirements documents is essential

Experience managing both internal and external stakeholders, with a proven ability to manage and monitor progress to ensure objectives are achieved for outsourced project efforts

Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills at varying levels of business up to and including business executives

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
