Job Title: Technical Lead - Data Center & Quality Control Design
Location: Haslet, TX (Onsite)
About the Role:
We are seeking a Technical Lead - Data Center & Quality Control Design who can bridge the gap between engineering intent and real-world execution. This role requires deep technical expertise in data center infrastructure, meticulous attention to design details, and the ability to identify and correct issues before they impact build quality.
You will actively participate in engineering calls, review designs, and ensure all components-such as cable management, grounding, and rack configurations-meet both technical requirements and best practices. Beyond reviewing documentation, you will have the skill to adjust Bills of Materials (BOMs) when necessary-identifying missing parts, substituting alternatives, and optimizing for cost, availability, or design changes rather than simply following a predefined list.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on data center expert who speaks the language of engineers, understands design intent, and can quickly spot gaps or inefficiencies. If you have experience building racks, enforcing high standards, and guiding teams toward technically sound, high-quality builds, this is an opportunity to be the lead voice in shaping the integrity of our data center infrastructure. Verizon experience is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead technical authority for data center build design reviews from concept to final implementation.
- Participate in engineering calls to understand design requirements and proactively identify missing or incorrect elements.
- Verify that all physical and electrical components (e.g., cable management, grounding, rack alignment) are properly specified and documented.
- Apply deep technical knowledge to ensure compliance with grounding standards (e.g., ensuring metal-to-metal contact where required).
- Review, validate, and adjust BOMs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and practicality-making modifications when parts are missing, better alternatives exist, or supply constraints require changes.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to resolve design or component issues before deployment.
- Oversee rack build quality, ensuring designs are executed as planned and meet technical specifications.
- Document and communicate design changes, quality issues, and corrective actions clearly to stakeholders.
- Mentor and guide team members on technical best practices in data center design and quality control.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in data center infrastructure, rack building, and quality control.
- Strong engineering background with the ability to understand, critique, and improve detailed technical designs.
- Expert-level knowledge of data center physical infrastructure, including grounding, cable management, and rack layout standards.
- Proven ability to identify missing elements in design documentation and make proactive, corrective recommendations.
- Demonstrated skill in modifying and optimizing BOMs based on technical needs, supply issues, or design changes.
- Strong collaboration skills for working closely with engineers, project managers, and operational staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document technical findings clearly.
- Proficiency with documentation tools and familiarity with engineering diagrams and BOM processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous Verizon data center experience.
- Project management or technical leadership experience in large-scale data center environments.
- Familiarity with telecom and network hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Dell, and HP.
- Industry certifications related to data center design or engineering (e.g., BICSI, DCD, RCDD).
