The Mannik & Smith Group (MSG) is expanding our Transportation Team in Michigan, and we're looking for a Senior Transportation Engineer & Office Lead to take charge of exciting roadway and utility design projects in a fully 3D digital environment. This position includes supervisory responsibilities, overseeing a team of seven designers in our Detroit office, and offers significant opportunities for professional growth and advancement.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Transportation Engineer & Office Lead, you'll combine technical expertise with team leadership to deliver high-quality transportation and utility projects:
  • Lead the preparation of transportation design plans and 3D models for local agency and municipal utility projects
  • Perform and review design calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Prepare design packages for milestone client submittals, including estimates, special provisions, and RID packages
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team
  • Support MDOT projects as needed, applying similar expertise and leadership
  • Oversee and manage a team of seven designers, ensuring successful project delivery and professional development

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • 12-15 years' experience working with MDOT transportation and Local Agency
  • Michigan PE with the ability to become registered in other states
  • Knowledge of OpenRoads ORD design software is required. AutoCAD/Civil3D is a plus
  • Experience working as a PM
  • Desire and ability to manage a team
