Job Details

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to support our vehicle-level homologation test activities, with a focus on Range testing. This Engineering Technician will help drive Tesla's worldwide rollout of new vehicles by applying previously acquired knowledge of Tesla vehicle systems and diagnostics to configure and diagnose vehicles in preparation for, and during, range tests. The role requires someone highly organized and confident in their ability to manage projects along a very fluid schedule. This full-time role is based out Merritt Island, Florida and requires the flexibility of traveling (up to 50%) to various domestic and international destinations when necessary, to test vehicles on public roads, test tracks, and Proving Grounds. This position requires this individual to be available and flexible to work morning shift, mid shift, and night shift when needed.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, diagnose, and repair prototype and production vehicles for Homologation range tests for multiple global markets, including equipment installation, parts sourcing, coastdown operation, following checklists, mileage accumulation, alignments, firmware updates and vehicle diagnostics
  • Work with the Lead Engineering Technician to coordinate vehicle and equipment logistics, maintain vehicle preparation timelines, document and communicate issues found, and maintain fleet vehicles
  • Design and build new instrumentation or test equipment as needed
  • Work with team to maintain a sustainable work schedule
  • Support vehicle development and innovation projects on demand
  • Maintain detailed records of all work performed on the vehicles
  • Work with internal engineering teams and external governing agencies to develop and validate vehicle performance
  • Communicate directly with engineers and other technicians to ensure a high level of technical support
  • Generate test reports to document results of testing and to communicate issues found
  • Work with external test labs, calibrations companies, and proving grounds to direct testing activities

Requirements
  • 2 years or more experience as an Engineering Technician, Service, Test technician, or Manufacturing Technician at Tesla or any another OEM
  • 2 year Technical/Automotive Degree, or equivalent experience. Master Technician preferred
  • High voltage certifications and ASE preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of electric vehicle systems, both in terms of operation and diagnostics
  • Excellent attention to detail, and prior experience in documenting issues/reporting
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Ability to adjust to changes frequently, multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be comfortable driving prototype vehicles at (or over) their limits on closed courses
  • Valid driving license
