Role: Android Engineer - Building Research Software in Android App
You ll be part of the Design Technology and UX Research team, an innovative group within the Design organization, working alongside design technologists, full-stack engineers, specialists in iOS, data engineering, and researchers. Standard hours are 9 5 Pacific, with flexibility for cross-time-zone collaboration.
You ll build and ship features for the eBay Android app used by millions of people worldwide. You ll own feature parity for Android, against iOS, and web platforms, partnering closely with the mobile architecture team to ensure consistent, highest-quality experiences. You ll help deliver robust, maintainable software through solid CI/CD practices, thoughtful testing, detailed documentation, and active participation in code reviews. Collaboration is key, so you ll work cross-functionally with researchers, data analysts, product managers, and designers to craft intuitive, functional experiences. You ll also contribute technical insight during reviews and planning sessions, helping to scope, estimate, and prioritize work that balances innovation, quality, and impact.
What you will bring:
Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science or similar technical degree, with 2 or more years of experience designing and developing Android applications.
Broad knowledge of design patterns and technologies used in designing Android applications.
Proficiency and hands-on experiences in Android development and Kotlin.
Working knowledge of tools such as Jira, Git, X-Code, debugging and profiling is required.
Experience integrating with web services using HTTP / JSON / OpenAPI / TCP/IP, as well as knowledge about databases.
Hands on experience with survey software or form builders is a plus.
Experience with building AI-enabled front-end applications is a plus.
This is a hybrid position, and will not have a set schedule for working in office, but is expected to attend in-person meetings in the Portland office on a semi-regular basis and needs to live within reasonable commuting distance from the Portland office.
Initial contract runs through 1H 2026 but possibility to renew beyond that date.
