Kratos Defense & Rocket Support Services, Inc., is a leading provider of launch vehicle services for the US Military and Foreign Allies. Kratos performs all necessary engineering, manufacturing, testing, and field operations from mission requirements through execution and post-flight assessments. Our Kratos team operates all over the world using our agile engineering and rocket launch systems, and each mission is unique with an average time from requirement to flight of 9-15 months. Most developments are complex, and all missions are executed with small, agile teams backed by a dedicated cadre of launch vehicle experts.

Kratos Defense & Rocket Support Services is seeking an accomplished Senior Ordnance Engineering Fellow to play a pivotal role in planning, and evaluation of field operations to ensure safety, reliability, and effectiveness of launch vehicle ordnance systems. This role demands deep expertise in engineering principles, explosive materials, and launch system technologies, as well as a strong degree of innovation for strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and prototype explosive ordnance systems with a focus on performance and safety.
  • Plan and conduct rigorous testing and data analysis to optimize ordnance functionality.
  • Ensure strict compliance by engineering and technical teams with safety regulations, applicable standards and regulations, and best practices for ordnance handling.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, commercial launch providers, military personnel, and defense contractors.
  • Oversee the manufacturing, lot acceptance testing and shelf-life extension processes for ordnance components, ensuring quality and efficiency.
  • Perform comprehensive risk assessments and safety evaluations for field operations and testing involving ordnance.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical challenges related to ordnance performance.
  • Provide expert technical support during field deployment and operational ordnance phases.
  • Develop, document, and maintain detailed technical specifications and reports.
  • Plan and execute remote launch site development, construction and certification, including installation of launchers, ground support facilities, communications systems and electrical cabling.


Experience and Skills

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Coursework in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 30 years of relevant experience in ordnance engineering.
  • Extensive experience in military ordnance and defense-related engineering projects.
  • Expertise in explosive materials, weapon technologies, and system integration.
  • Expertise in launcher systems and ground support infrastructure maintenance and modification.
  • Expertise in the adaptation of surplus military rocket motors, ordnance and subsystem components to accomplish unique test and demonstration requirements.
  • Expertise in the development of test requirements for certification of launch vehicle support equipment, remote launch sites and launchers.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to confidently engage with senior leadership.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to challenges.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
