The Application Support Engineer will provide technical, operational, and administrative support for mission-critical applications that enable SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and ITOA Scheduling Switch Operations. This role ensures the reliability, performance, and security of control-room and field-operations systems. The engineer will also own key processes for application metrics, monitoring, patch management, and compliance reporting, ensuring systems remain stable, up-to-date, and optimized. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, experience with real-time operational systems, and the ability to work in a high-availability environment with strict change-management controls.

Key Responsibilities

Application Support & Operations

  • Provide L2/L3 support for SCADA and ITOA Scheduling applications, including issue investigation, root-cause analysis, triage, escalation, and resolution.
  • Monitor system health, data flows, alarms, and performance indicators for real-time operational systems.
  • Support Switch Operations workflows, ensuring applications function reliably for planning, scheduling, and executing operational switching.
  • Maintain uptime and SLAs for mission-critical systems, ensuring rapid response to incidents.
  • Collaborate with Control Room Operators, System Operators, Field Technicians, and Engineering teams.

Release, Patch, and Configuration Management

  • Plan, coordinate, test, and deploy patches, version upgrades, hotfixes, and firmware updates.
  • Validate vendor releases and ensure compatibility with production SCADA and scheduling environments.
  • Maintain configuration documentation, baselines, and change-management records per organizational requirements.
  • Automate patching and deployment pipelines where possible (CI/CD preferred).

Metrics, Monitoring & Reporting

  • Develop, maintain, and present system performance metrics, operational dashboards, and reliability KPIs.
  • Establish proactive monitoring for availability, latency, security events, and data integrity issues.
  • Produce regular operational reports for leadership, audit, and compliance stakeholders.
  • Analyze trends to identify recurring issues, capacity constraints, or areas for optimization.

Incident & Problem Management

  • Lead technical investigations for high-severity incidents, including coordination with cross-functional teams and vendors.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support 24/7 operations when required.
  • Occasional off-hours work for patching, upgrades, or incident response.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise or operational technology systems.
  • Hands-on experience with SCADA systems, OT environments, real-time control systems, or grid/field operations software.
  • Familiarity with scheduling or switching operations tools (ITOA or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of Windows Server/Linux environments, networking, and application integration.
  • Experience with patching tools, configuration management, and application lifecycle support.
  • Familiarity with SQL queries, scripting (PowerShell, Python), or automation tools.
  • Experience in the electric utilities, energy, power generation, transmission, or industrial control systems domains, is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues under time pressure.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
