Role: Application Support Engineer SCADA
Location: Long Island, NY(within 50 miles of 11714)
Mode: Hybrid(2 days onsite in a week)
The Application Support Engineer will provide technical, operational, and administrative support for mission-critical applications that enable SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and ITOA Scheduling Switch Operations. This role ensures the reliability, performance, and security of control-room and field-operations systems. The engineer will also own key processes for application metrics, monitoring, patch management, and compliance reporting, ensuring systems remain stable, up-to-date, and optimized. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, experience with real-time operational systems, and the ability to work in a high-availability environment with strict change-management controls.
Key Responsibilities
Application Support & Operations
- Provide L2/L3 support for SCADA and ITOA Scheduling applications, including issue investigation, root-cause analysis, triage, escalation, and resolution.
- Monitor system health, data flows, alarms, and performance indicators for real-time operational systems.
- Support Switch Operations workflows, ensuring applications function reliably for planning, scheduling, and executing operational switching.
- Maintain uptime and SLAs for mission-critical systems, ensuring rapid response to incidents.
- Collaborate with Control Room Operators, System Operators, Field Technicians, and Engineering teams.
Release, Patch, and Configuration Management
- Plan, coordinate, test, and deploy patches, version upgrades, hotfixes, and firmware updates.
- Validate vendor releases and ensure compatibility with production SCADA and scheduling environments.
- Maintain configuration documentation, baselines, and change-management records per organizational requirements.
- Automate patching and deployment pipelines where possible (CI/CD preferred).
Metrics, Monitoring & Reporting
- Develop, maintain, and present system performance metrics, operational dashboards, and reliability KPIs.
- Establish proactive monitoring for availability, latency, security events, and data integrity issues.
- Produce regular operational reports for leadership, audit, and compliance stakeholders.
- Analyze trends to identify recurring issues, capacity constraints, or areas for optimization.
Incident & Problem Management
- Lead technical investigations for high-severity incidents, including coordination with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support 24/7 operations when required.
- Occasional off-hours work for patching, upgrades, or incident response.
Required Qualifications
- 3 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise or operational technology systems.
- Hands-on experience with SCADA systems, OT environments, real-time control systems, or grid/field operations software.
- Familiarity with scheduling or switching operations tools (ITOA or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of Windows Server/Linux environments, networking, and application integration.
- Experience with patching tools, configuration management, and application lifecycle support.
- Familiarity with SQL queries, scripting (PowerShell, Python), or automation tools.
- Experience in the electric utilities, energy, power generation, transmission, or industrial control systems domains, is preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues under time pressure.
- Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
