Key Responsibilities:
- Translate technical manuals, user guides, installation instructions, data sheets, ECNs, and compliance documentation from English to neutral or LATAM-specific Spanish.
- Localize content for various LATAM regions while ensuring terminology accuracy and cultural appropriateness.
- Ensure the translated content aligns with local safety and industrial standards
- Collaborate closely with engineers, technical writers, and project managers to ensure clarity and consistency of terminology.
- Work with CAT tools and translation management systems (e.g., memoQ, Trados, Smartling).
- Maintain a regionally adapted terminology glossary and style guide specific to LATAM Spanish technical publications.
- Proofread and QA translated documents to ensure linguistic, technical, and regulatory accuracy.
- Provide translation support for UI labels, system prompts, safety warnings, training materials, and marketing assets if needed.
Requirements:
- Native-level fluency in Latin American Spanish, with strong command of English.
- 3+ years of experience translating technical documentation (engineering, electronics, industrial automation, safety systems).
- Understanding of regional regulatory frameworks (e.g., NOM, IRAM, ICONTEC, or equivalents -a good to have).
- Familiarity with structured content (DITA/XML), CMS platforms, and desktop publishing tools (Adobe InDesign, MadCap Flare, Illustrator), Jira.
- Expertise in using translation memory systems and managing terminology consistency across projects.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong proofreading/editing skills.
- Strong technical understanding of products and systems
- Proficiency in authoring tools like Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with graphic design tools (if needed)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Translation, Linguistics, Engineering, or Technical Writing.
- Experience working with fire alarm systems or industrial safety systems (preferably)
- Exposure to UL/ULC standards and U.S.-based safety compliance documentation is an asset.
- Familiarity with localization strategies for neutral Spanish versus country-specific variants.
- Knowledge of industry standards for technical documentation:
- IEC/IEEE 82079-1: A documentation standard
- VDI guideline 2770: A guideline for exchanging documents
- ISO 2651x: Software documentation for target groups
- ISO/AWI 21999: A guideline for improving the quality of translations
