Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to lead the engineering, deployment, and ongoing support of a secure and compliant AWS environment. This role will focus on building automated cloud infrastructure aligned to strict security frameworks, supporting research workflows, and ensuring operational excellence across multiple AWS accounts. The ideal candidate has deep hands-on AWS expertise, strong Infrastructure-as-Code experience, and a background in secure cloud architecture and compliance-driven environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering and deployment of a secure, compliant AWS environment including landing zones, account structure, networking, IAM, monitoring, and logging.

  • Implement AWS guardrails and controls aligned with NIST 800-171 and other security frameworks.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to analyze requirements and map security controls to AWS services.

  • Design, write, and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, CloudFormation, and integration with deployment pipelines.

  • Develop automation scripts for security, compliance validation, and system monitoring.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex cloud infrastructure issues across development and non-production environments.

  • Manage workflow of cloud support requests, set priorities, track issues, and ensure timely resolution.

  • Ensure adherence to cloud service SLAs, providing input on improvements where needed.

  • Participate in incident response planning, testing, and operational continuity exercises.

  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation including runbooks, implementation guides, architecture decision records, and audit evidence catalogs.

  • Support project planning, stakeholder discussions, and compliance readiness assessments to strengthen cloud governance and reporting.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience as a Cloud Engineer (5+ years preferred).

  • Expertise in AWS cloud architecture, including landing zones, IAM, VPC design, logging, monitoring, and account management.

  • Proficiency with Terraform, CloudFormation, and other Infrastructure-as-Code tools.

  • Strong understanding of cloud security frameworks, particularly NIST 800-171.

  • Experience with automation scripting for cloud operations and security (Python, Bash, or similar).

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure issues.

  • Experience supporting SLAs and managing support workflows.

  • Ability to create detailed technical documentation and support audit-related activities.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including participation in cross-functional planning.
