Furthermore, post-conversion to permanent employment, this individual must be comfortable commuting or traveling to Baltimore, MD two-to-three times per month.

Overview & Responsibilities

  • Join a leading health plan in a high-impact role as a PBM Strategy and Implementation Consultant. Reporting directly to the VP of Pharmacy Management, you will be the key business leader driving a critical, large-scale project: the transition to a new Pharmacy Benefits Manager (PBM) and the implementation of an innovative financial model. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your deep PBM expertise on a strategic initiative with executive visibility and potential for permanent employment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the primary business owner and lead for the successful implementation of a new PBM and associated financial model.
  • Manage business execution activities, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Collaborate extensively with internal stakeholders (PMO, IT, Operations, Business Sponsors) and external partners (Implementation Vendor, Incumbent PBM, New PBM).
  • Provide project leadership, strategic direction, and ensure accountability for business deliverables.
  • Facilitate integration of pharmacy business processes between incumbent and incoming PBMs.
  • Support business readiness activities, including communication and stakeholder management.
  • Contribute to contract management and vendor relationship oversight.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and value effectively, including presentations to senior and executive leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have proven, direct, hands-on experience leading PBM implementation or transition projects from the business side (e.g., at a health plan, PBM, or as a consultant directly managing the implementation).
  • Strong knowledge and experience within the PBM industry, specifically understanding financial models (discounts, rebates) and operational areas (formulary management, network management, claims adjudication).
  • Demonstrated experience in the Commercial pharmacy line of business.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of total relevant experience in areas such as pharmacy supply chain, PBM operations, PBM contracting, or pharmacy business operations.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage complex projects in a matrixed environment, and drive execution.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and presentation skills, with experience engaging senior and executive stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Medicare and/or Medicaid pharmacy lines of business.
  • Experience managing PBM implementations across multiple lines of business (Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid).
  • Experience with PBM and supply chain contract negotiation and management.

Sincerely,

Preetam Raj
