Description

SAIC is seeking an experienced Field Engineer at Camp Pendleton, CA to supervise and lead our Combat and Strategic Systems Operation. This role involves providing oversight and ensuring support for 2nd and 3rd echelon maintenance and Operator/Maintenance Training on Medium and Light Tactical Vehicle Platforms in support of Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane tasking portfolio.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Supervision and Leadership: Act as the primary representative with overarching responsibility for implementation and optimization of hardware products and multi-vendor systems at customer sites. This includes leading a team of technicians and specialists, ensuring efficient identification and replacement of components, and conducting functional tests to return articles to service.
  • Primary Point of Contact: Serve as the primary point of contact between the Liaison Officer (LNO) & IIMEF with Crane and SAIC leadership, ensuring clear communication and coordination across all parties.
  • Technical and Maintenance Oversight: Review technical documentation to identify planned maintenance action requirements, implement service advisories, bulletins, and make recommendations for equipment installation, operation, and maintenance improvements. Provide critical analysis for equipment optimization and quality improvement.
  • Comprehensive Systems Management: Oversee all vehicle systems, including communication, engine repair, transmissions, suspensions, brakes, electronic systems, HVAC, and ancillary systems and subsystems. Manage integration support of existing hardware, network configurations, and new system initiatives for all sites within the area of responsibility.
  • Installation and Upgrade Management: Supervise the installation of hardware upgrades, including oversight of the installation process and test procedures to diagnose and resolve product performance problems.
  • Product Improvement and Feedback: Identify areas requiring product improvement, approve, and implement upgrades and hardware engineering change orders. Provide feedback regarding product performance problems and suggest solutions, which may require product exchanges or more complex problem solving.
  • Schedule Management: Manage and coordinate work schedules for Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV), Utility Tactical Vehicles (ULTV), and Utility Task Vehicles (UTV) to ensure operational efficiency and timely maintenance.
  • Report and Presentation Preparation: Prepare and conduct reports and presentations pertinent to company products and services, field operations, or other applications.
  • Training and Development: Plan, prepare, and conduct on-the-job training as required in support of the foregoing activities. Supervise and train lower-level service technicians in both field and classroom settings.

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT:
  • Scope and Objectives: Receive assignments in the form of objectives with defined goals and processes to meet those goals.
  • Direct Supervision: Directly supervise individual contributors (skilled technicians, administrative support) and/or entry-level professionals (entry-level engineers, accountants).
  • Policy Administration: Administer company policies affecting subordinate employees, recommend changes to policies, and provide direction according to established guidelines. Management reviews work to ensure objectives are met.
  • Problem Complexity: Administer and execute policies and processes that affect subordinate employees and workflow. Lead daily operations of the work unit.
  • Freedom to Act: Operate with task or activity-oriented assignments. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall quality.
  • Impact: Decisions impact work unit operations. Erroneous decisions may cause delays in schedules and require additional resources.
  • Liaison Responsibilities: Interact internally with subordinates and other supervisors and externally with suppliers, vendors, and customers. Primary purpose is information sharing and basic problem resolution.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, or an associate degree with at least ten years of relevant experience in integration, installation, repair, and maintenance of Military wheeled vehicles.
  • Security Clearance: Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance, with an Interim Secret needed to start (SAIC will sponsor the clearance process).
  • Work Hours Flexibility: Availability for extended or weekend hours, and short-notice assignments, including holidays.
  • Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Training Experience: Demonstrated ability to supervise and provide both classroom and practical exercise instruction for Field Level Maintenance New Equipment Training (FLMNET) for LTV platforms.
  • Certified Mechanic: Formally trained mechanic via Military training or formal post secondary education.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all prescribed safety protocols.
  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledgeable in the parts, materials, and processes of electrical and mechanical components.
  • Tool Management: Competency with various hand, power-driven, and specialty tools.
  • Technical Documentation: Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, handbooks, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Installation Oversight: Supervise the installation of mounts, brackets, cables, connectors, electronic equipment, and labeling.
  • Data Management: Proficiency in annotating and modifying documentation within databases.
  • Repair Efficiency: Ensure timely performance of quality repairs.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee serialized parts inventory management, including warranty tracking.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Passport Requirement: Must have a valid passport and be prepared to travel as necessary, up to 50%.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Physical Demands: Capability to lift/push/pull/carry up to 50 pounds unassisted regularly.
  • Vehicle Accessibility: Ability to lead and assist with tasks in confined spaces within tactical vehicles.
  • Manual Dexterity: Proficient manipulation/handling of objects and tools within confined spaces.
  • Mobility: Able to walk, bend, stoop, sit, stand, or squat for extended periods.
  • Medical Clearance: Must pass a DOT Medical Exam.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Active Security Clearance: Currently holds an active Secret Clearance.
  • Diesel Experience: Experience with Medium/Heavy Duty and Light Duty diesel engines.
  • Diagnostic Tools: Proficiency with Cat-ET, DG Diagnostics, and Dana testing tools (minimum two years).
  • Quality Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with quality systems, including inspection processes and company quality procedures.
  • Mechanical Expertise: Strong mechanical skills; experienced in troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, installation, and checkout procedures for military ground tactical vehicles.
