Job Description:
Sr. BSA/Compliance Analyst
Onsite (San Marcos, Riverside)
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Vice President BSA/Compliance Officer, the Sr. BSA/Compliance Analyst ensures compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti- Money Laundering (AML) regulations, the USA PATRIOT Act, Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations, Customer Identification Program (CIP), the Compliance Management System (CMS), and the institution's internal policies and procedures. The role requires a high degree of professional maturity, sound judgment, and regulatory expertise. A certain level of independence, creativity, and discretion is expected.
This senior-level position focuses on managing transaction monitoring and case investigations using systems such as Verafin. Responsibilities include clearing alerts, reviewing internal referrals and law enforcement requests, analyzing suspicious activity, and preparing timely regulatory filings, such as Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs). The analyst conducts Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews, monitors high-risk accounts, and performs onboarding reviews to ensure CIP and CDD compliance.
In support of the Compliance Management System, the Sr. Analyst assists in developing and updating policies and procedures, reviewing disclosures and customer-facing forms for regulatory accuracy, contributing to internal risk assessments, and supporting training initiatives. The role also assists with internal and external audits and exam preparation, provides regulatory research, and helps maintain strong compliance controls across business units.
Participates in cross-functional projects and provides mentorship to junior analysts or team members as necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrate deep knowledge and adherence to state and federal laws and regulations affecting the financial services industry, including BSA, AML, USA PATRIOT Act, OFAC, CIP, and Privacy regulations.
Conduct reviews of customer disclosures, internal forms, and policies to ensure compliance accuracy and regulatory alignment.
Collaborate across departments to address Compliance and BSA/AML-related inquiries, provide training support, and promote compliance awareness.
Monitor and investigate customer transactions for suspicious activity, including fraud, money laundering, and elder abuse.
Analyze and resolve BSA/AML alerts; conduct and document complex case investigations and recommend escalations, account restrictions, or closures as appropriate.
Prepare and file accurate and timely Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs), ensuring thorough supporting documentation.
Perform Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews on high-risk customers.
Review account documentation for CIP/CDD compliance and assign customer risk ratings.
Review OFAC and 314(a) screenings and investigate positive matches.
Evaluate customer behavior trends and support ongoing tuning of monitoring rules and thresholds.
Develop internal reports and dashboards for management oversight, risk metrics, and audit preparedness.
Assist with audits, regulatory exams, and risk assessments, including drafting responses and tracking remediations.
Participate in system upgrades, product reviews, and serve as compliance liaison on cross-functional projects.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior analysts and contribute to staff development..
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree
Knowledge of databases and websites used in the investigations of suspicious activity, including money laundering and terrorist financing.
Knowledge of banking and branch operations.
Good personal computer skills and proficient in using software commonly employed in an office environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to analyze business situations, identify problems or concerns, determine applicable scenarios, and choose the appropriate solution to the problem.
Interacts with other Bank personnel to obtain customer information for use in suspicious activity investigations.
Verafin AML Software experience is a plus
CAMS Certification is a definite plus, willing to take the necessary coursework for CAMS certification
