Job Title: Senior Mainframe Systems Engineer
Location: Remote
Duration/Term: Long-Term Contract


Job Summary:

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Mainframe Systems Engineer with deep expertise in GDPS setup and REXX scripting. The ideal candidate will handle system installation and maintenance, automation, and networking tasks in complex enterprise environments. A self-driven problem-solver, this person will collaborate across teams to ensure stability, performance, and reliability of core mainframe systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, upgrade, and maintain VTAM, TCP/IP, OSA, and related mainframe networking products.
  • Manage SMPE-based product maintenance, patching, and version control.
  • Interface with operations teams for log handling and job automation integration.
  • Ensure backup and recovery strategies are implemented for system resilience.
  • Perform resource definitions, security administration, and system tuning.
  • Configure and support networking protocols: FTP, SMTP, SNMP, printer services.
  • Provide support and maintenance for:
    • TCP/IP and related protocols
    • SNA, APPN, and VTAM
    • Connect:Direct and other file transfer tools
    • Session management tools like TPX, Teleview, CL/Supersession
    • Network monitoring solutions such as NetView, NetMaster/TCPIP
    • Print server systems, including VPS


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 8 10 years of experience in enterprise system engineering and support.
  • Proven hands-on expertise in GDPS setup and configuration.
  • Proficient in REXX coding and automation.
  • Solid knowledge of mainframe networking, system logs, and automated operations.
  • Familiarity with SMPE, security administration, and resource management.
  • Well-versed in software lifecycle maintenance and update procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, with fluency in English.
  • Highly organized, able to multitask across support and projects
  • Self-motivated with a finish-what-you-start mindset and attention to documentation.
