Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a software developer to work with a motivated team of developers and system administrators to support the development and sustainment of mission-critical applications for a federal government client focused on national security. The candidate will provide development and O&M support for a production system responsible for disseminating finished intelligence reports to various customers. The developer will work in conjunction with other contractor developers in an Agile approach to assist in all facets of development and O&M for the application. O&M support will include, but is not limited to, the gathering, analysis, and development of enhancement specifications/requirements provided by the Government Product Manager. The developer may be tasked with supporting all aspects of the project to include all phases of lifecycle development.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Participation in Agile ceremonies including scrum, product increment planning, and retrospectives
  • interpreting system requirements, perform code review, and commit bug-free, unit tested code
  • performing development, maintenance, sustainment, and improvement tasks
  • transitioning an application from its existing infrastructure to enable it to run on modern technology
  • preserving existing functionality while changing necessary environmental and configuration properties
  • refactoring or rewriting modules to reduce and/or eliminate technical debt
  • development of New Features and Enhancements to existing applications or systems
  • design, develop, test, and implement enhancements to add new features and/or functionality to the application or system
  • Participates in the development of recommendations for updates to processes, job aids, documentation, methodology, opportunities for innovation and topics for deeper dive analysis and further research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E)
In order to ensure knowledge sharing and coordination between teams, responsibilities may also include:
  • the creation and maintenance of as-is system documentation such as high-level system architecture diagrams illustrating key system components and systems requirements documents
  • supporting the maintenance of active security authorizations for all projects/security plans (SPIDs) and of required security body of evidence (BoE) artifacts such as POAMs, control implementations and test plans to meet all Assessment and Authorization (A&A) milestone requirements; continuous integration with all enterprise security services (ESS), implementing all applicable manual Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), vendor hardening guides and ensuring timely installation of all available patches, and usage of security relevant databases such as XACTA 360, Service+, Continuity Planning Tool (CPT), and Software Approval Process (SWAP)
  • the build, test, and deployment of all services, applications, software code, and metadata using enterprise, government-managed Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline
  • Providing Tier 1 and Tier 2 support during non-business hours as required
The ideal candidate is highly technical and has a proven commitment to quality with a solid understanding of Agile systems development methodologies, cloud technologies, troubleshooting techniques, and familiar with the latest software development technologies and application performance analysis. The candidate must be self-organizing and team-oriented and be able to work on multiple projects. The candidate must have strong communication skills and the persistence to resolve technical issues.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Education: Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or other related technical or scientific discipline
  • Experience: Required: Minimum of seven (7) years of development experience and expertise, to include demonstrated development expertise in at least four of the technologies below:
    • Python (with Flask)
    • Java
    • Perl
    • Angular
    • HTML with CSS
    • XML
    • Apache Tomcat (Solr)
    • Alfresco
    • Angular
    • Oracle
    • Postgres
  • Demonstrated experience in Agile Development of applications for operation in a cloud environment, including
    • Developing in Python
    • Working with REST APIs
    • Relational databases
    • Knowledge of scripting languages and methods to automate processes

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Amazon Web Services expertise and certification (Build and developing AWS EC2 servers for modernization)
  • Agile or SAFe certification
  • Experience with
    • secure IT systems and ATOs which comply with DoD standards and regulations for secure network operations
    • PHP
    • JavaScript
    • Database administration (relational database - SQL, MYSQL, PostGres, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to identify issues and implement correction actions

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $112420 - $191070

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
