The Data and AI Enablement team is hiring an AI Systems Engineer Staff. This pivotal role demands deep technical expertise, a proactive approach, and a proven track record in supporting complex enterprise environments.

What You Will Be Doing:
In this role, you will be leading critical issue resolution, provide strategic best practice guidance, and significantly improve our data science platforms. You'll be a trusted subject matter expert, ensuring internal customers maximize platform value and mentoring junior members on the team. Your key responsibilities will include the following:

Serving as primary contact and subject matter expert for internal customers using Cloud Pak for Data services (Watson Studio, DataStage, Jupyter Notebooks, Watson Pipelines, Data Refinery, WatsonX, WML, AutoAI)
Leading diagnosis and resolution of highly complex, critical technical issues across the entire Cloud Pak Ecosystem, including deep-dive analysis and cross-team collaboration
Guiding customers on advanced Watson Studio project management, complex environment setups, efficient data integration, custom runtimes and optimized ML workflow execution
Defining and implementing best practices for data science platforms, covering advanced data prep, model development, ETL and pipeline development and scalable deployment
Proactively partnering with internal data science, engineering, and product teams to influence platform enhancements, address systemic issues, and drive overall customer experience and platform stability
Acting as a deep technical expert in watsonx.ai, continuously expanding knowledge of advanced features and applications
Mentoring and providing technical leadership to junior support specialists, fostering growth and enhancing team problem-solving
Developing and delivering comprehensive technical training and documentation for customers and internal teams on advanced usage and new features.
Driving initiatives to optimize support processes and tools, leveraging automation and analytics for improved efficiency and customer satisfaction

Basic Qualifications

Significant/progressive experience in technical support, ETL, data science, or machine learning, with a proven track record in complex enterprise environments
Exceptional Python expertise, with extensive experience in performance optimization and debugging
In-depth proficiency with enterprise cloud platforms (IBM Cloud, AWS, or Azure), with hands-on experience architecting, deploying, or troubleshooting cloud-native data and AI solutions
Extensive experience with automation tools (Ansible, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD), particularly automating deployments, configurations, and troubleshooting for data science platforms at scale
Demonstrated experience with a wide range of other data science and analytics platforms (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau), understanding their integration and troubleshooting
Superior problem-solving and analytical skills, with expert ability to diagnose and resolve highly ambiguous, critical technical issues under pressure
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of translating complex concepts, influencing stakeholders, and effectively negotiating solutions

Desired skills

Experience with LLM, machine learning, and MCPs
Advanced experience with IBM Cloud Pak for Data, including deep architectural understanding of Watson Studio, Jupyter notebooks, and DataStage in large-scale environments
Proven experience with agile methodologies and DevOps practices, focused on driving efficiency, continuous improvement, and reliability
Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architectures in data and AI deployments
Familiarity with data governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) frameworks for data management and AI ethics
Relevant professional certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, IBM Certified Solution Architect)
Experience with advanced statistical analysis or machine learning model interpretability

Full-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work remotely full time at a location other than a Lockheed Martin designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a Lockheed Martin office for periodic meetings.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

National Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $113,900 - $200,905. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.

Premium Pay Statement
